Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

The basic tech is meshed together. That's a fact. Ship Interiors, Cities, Planets work.

Rubbish, you talk as if the game is 'just missing x, y or z game loop and it would all be ok'. The physics grid(s) they are using are screwed, instancing is screwed - you aint getting any epic Idris-offs anytime soon buddy - as well as a host of other things. AI - screwed....want me to go on?

Those things don't work if lifts, ramps, ships and misplaced rocks can kill you, they don't work if your inventory is a lottery, they don't work if the AI dislocates their spine or sinks into the floor....want me to go on?

Not just the industry, but classic sci-fi IPs spanning decades (and also Sanrio for a little bit). He was just brazen enough to take up the mythic "great man" sword to fill his coffers. Now, whether he knew he was writing checks with his wavy hands that his skills couldn't cash will be up for debate, and have been for a decade.

I prescribe a stiff whiskey and a lay down for you fella.......smh

Roberts has not saved PC gaming. Him and his cronies have done more damage to crowd funding than Ouya or any other Kickstarter that failed to live it up to its hype.

He and his cronies are little more than crooks and are enabled by backers either actively supporting them or turning a blind eye to their highly questionable practices because "I am only interested in the game"
Well, suggest to me: How else do you make money?
You crowdfund your game, you give it a hilariously huge scope, have to build a company from scratch, maintain a live service game while concepting and developing it. All of that without a publisher. Don't want to release another Cyberpunk.

Do you attempt to sell copies of your buggy alpha, knowing full well you will be showered with refunds, because surprise surprise, its not finished. Or introduce pledges of ships to finance your company and game building operation? Even with their pledge selling, according to their Financials they're in the black or red most of the times anyway. There is no other way to fund something like this without a publisher. And if you had one, your scope would be severely limited, things would be rushed to meet a release date and the game isnt gonna be what its intended to be.

So it's somehow better when the funds are taken directly from the customers who pre-order, instead of mitigating risk with a publisher that can rein in scope and timelines?

Never said it did. I was just bringing the topic back to SC :p

Actually, but if you're asking....

ED with its millions of systems vs SC with its 1 system - yes, i'd say that is much better.

If we are talking about what may happen in the future, ED with billions of earthlike worlds, gas giants, and other worlds to explore with varied life on them vs SC with 110 systems - then the answer is still ED is better for exploration.

Oh you can go on and on if you want to. The physics grids work, I can step onto my ship :D. Instancing works, just played with a friend for a couple of hours :D Epic Idris Offs are in the game through missions :D Yeah and then a bunch of ifs. if if if. but oh well, when they do work, which is most of the time (in my experience anyway). So go on, spread your sodium like they do on the streets in winter, and I'll comfortably sit in my ship interior, falling through the floor or not.

Never said its better. Its just that if you want to make a game with a scope like this, you'll need to take a different approach.

Maybe, but where's the "varied life" in ED? As far as I've seen there aint no life in that game apart from the occasional thargoid or CMDR.

You define a scope that is achievable and realistic for a set budget
You stay within that scope
You hold yourself accountable for meeting timelines

You do not:
Set up a number of shell companies to shuffle funds around each time taking a "commission" for each transaction
Spend x thousand dollars on a door because it looks cool
Spend x thousand dollars on a coffee machine because you really like lattes
Absolve yourself for failing to meet any deadlines you set yourself

Obviously. When CR shopped his idea around, none of the publishers wanted it. Then again, his failed relationship with Microsoft already made an impression in the industry as someone who overpromises, underdelivers, blows deadlines, and wastes money.

At least the publishers learned a lesson. But hey, crowdfunding! That's a whole fresh audience!

Hurray for Drew who finally got his "Armstrong Moment".

"In this short video Drew demonstrates a flight from low planetary orbit to the surface in his new "Drake Cutlass Black" spacecraft. There are no loading screens, no transitions, no glides or mode changes. He's able to step out and make first footfall on a new world..."

In the future, same as with all the stuff SC backers think they are getting in the future.

There are quite a lot of plant and crystalline life forms on planets now, plus various things than hang out in rings. In terms of diversity, its a lot more diverse than what SC has to offer with its speedtree trees and bushes.

If you note, i compare what is now between the games vs what might be between the games in the future. None of this future-as-present tense that the SC faithful like to use.

But if you want a list of what lifeforms exist in ED

And ED does have aliens that you can fight. Something that doesn't exist in SC yet! ;)

Cool, but please give me some big aliens on planets I can shoot or something, would fit with Odyssey. But yeah static "lifeforms" are cool.

Vanduul Swarm in Arena Commander exists.

Bloody hell, what we on here Ebob, an 'alternative facts' crusade.

There is one truth and one only, the truth is while Star Citizen is a buggy mess the 'meshing together' hasn't been successful, the tech doesn't work in harmony and ramps shouldn't be homicidal maniacs.

It is out yet not out, the tech is broken but somehow complete....you're a contortionist Ebob
