Supercruise violence to save Elite

Elite needs to shake something up, to bring people back, and it can't cost lots of cash...so, let's shout a solution into the void.

And that shake up, is to add supercruise combat.

And I would even venture as far as, having supercruise combat replace the interdiction 'mini game'.

Players would then need to decide how many modules they dedicate to supercruise combat Vs normal combat

And this combat could be somewhat slower paced and tactical.

Wow, I would be hard pressed to find a better reason to avoid open completely.
We already need to compromise our non combat builds to survive gank attempts in open anywhere other players are. This suggestion would require us to further compromise our non combat builds to protect against a second type of gank.
Do Not Want.

Or....

By ditching the silly interdiction mini game for something that required some tactical skill and thinking, you would have to compromise less if you wanted a non-combat build.

What if you were able to make decisions beyond, do I chase the blue shiny thing or not.

Survive the interdiction by diverting to a closer station.

Survive by getting the attacker caught in a gravity well or crashing into rings

Etc.

A good reason to leave the game altogether more like it!

You can already do that, you did know that right?

Survive the interdiction by diverting to a closer station.

This isn't SC, we have free movement here, we can just turn and go anywhere we want, no need to "divert".

You can already do most of this, you do realise there are various tactics you can take to avoid interdiction before they even get you, slowing down and dropping to normal space, changing course to avoid them getting behind you, sitting with your back to a star the interdictor gets burnt up trying to interdict you, not using the "normal" (directly at it) approach method to stations and planets.

This is much more likely as already stated to drive players to solo, and if the NPC's became as annoying as well, drive people away from the game altogether.

Not sure how that will bring people back, and attract new players which is as important. Only players already playing will know about the changes, if you blurt out in a news release "changes to interdiction and SC combat in Elite" nobody except elite players will know what you are talking about, and there really aren't enough people out there who used to play Elite that this will bring back, most of them probably left because of ganking anyway, I am sure this wouldn't help much.

Yes I am aware of the movement tactics you can use to avoid, interdiction and trick the dumb as f 'ai'..

But it's super limiting, boring and pointless because in anything but a giant ship it easy to escape interdiction and even if you can't just submit and go (because if you're in a ship that can't beat an interdiction your going to be able to take a beating.)

Having a 2nd tier of ship to ship combat would open up so many possibilities and be relatively easy to make happen in existing engine.

But if you come at it with civil service levels of creativity and imagination then yea, if it ain't broke don't fix it....

Except it is broke... Because the next time elite generates any kind of revenue is?.....

Those moves aren't specific to tricking dumb AF AI tho.

I don't know, just go to Deciat or whatever current CG system, in Open, in a stock T6, if you want things to not be boring and easy :ROFLMAO:

Also, if there is ONE thing that can single-handedly "save" Elite, it's obviously the Panther Clipper and not some fancy SC combat.
Or maybe medium-pad capability for the T7.
Duh

While this suggestion isn't very well thought out the concept of supercruise combat could work and just about anything would be better than the interdiction mini game.

While regular combat is inspired by dogfighting, supercruise combat could be like the the over-the-horizon missile combat of modern air war; I think some people play and even enjoy those sims too. That would also probably require a rework of scanners/stealth in supercruise.

And I would say scanners/stealth is a system in dire need of a rework.
