4 DLC’s for 2022 - what are your dream bets?

My dreams? Well...

looks longingly at saiga

dreams of ponds filled with twenty kinds of waterfowl

pines after racoons and red river hogs

What I actually think will happen on the other hand...

I'm not certain if we'll get a flighted aviary pack or not, though I very much hope we do.

I do think we'll get more birds, even if they are mostly ground-based rattites and waterfowl, because the community wants birds, and Frontier does seem to listen to the community. I wouldn't be surprised if we ended 2022 with four or five more non-penguin birds with one or two making an appearance each pack. Which isn't great, but it's better than nothing.

I would be ecstatic about any of the following:

Rhea
Kiwi
Emu
Secretary bird
Grey crowned crane
Shoebill
Capercaillie
Himalayan monal
Golden pheasant
Mandarin duck
Muscovy duck
Bar headed goose
Black swan
Mute swan
Whooping crane
White napped crane
Roseate spoonbill
Helmeted Guineafowl
Any tragopan
Any pelican
Any stork

For the packs themselves, I suspect we'll get biomes: tropical, temperate, grassland, and desert. Technically, we already had a tundra/taiga pack with the Arctic pack.

I would hope for all animal packs, but at least one of them will probably be a 5+1 scenery pack to keep the builders interested.

Capybara and dromedary will both happen and at least 15 animals from the meta list top 20 will be added. We may even get a Malaysian tapir added eventually (joke).

I also think that DLCs will keep coming as long as the community keeps buying them and they're profitable to turn out.

And maybe, maybe, when support does eventually end, the final dlc will be a modders toolkit, so we can add all of the wonderful creatures who didn't make the cut, and give this game a fantastic afterlife making the zoos of our dreams.

No idea what animals they will feature but I expect
  • Tropical
  • Aviary
  • Conservation
  • Asia or Nocturnal
We could also get an Abtarctic or primate pack but I have my doubts.

Darkhorse idea, Exhibit animal pack.

For 2022 I'd like full focus on new animals, foliage, and if possible new gameplay adjustments. This also means new pack formats. I feel like we are now fully saturated in scenery pieces, which can only be made better if some existing pieces are made flexicolor.

So my dream 2022 setup would be:

Spring DLC: Wetlands biome pack.
6+1 and 50 new aquatic foliage pieces.
Capybara, red river hog, west Indian manatee, Asian small clawed otter, South American marsh deer, mute swan + axolotl.
+
Free update:
  • scenario editor, lets people create their own scenarios which they can share on the steam workshop. This will create a ton new content created by players themselves!
  • New shops for food and drinks.
  • Adds deep diving to the remaining animals who need it.
  • Updates Malayan tapir model.
  • Updates animal heights across the board.
  • Increases herding for animals it applies to.
  • Young animals will now follow the mother around and stay by her side.

Summer DLC: Drylands biome pack.
6+1 and 50 new desert foliage pieces.
Striped hyena, Patagonian mara, caracal, emu, Przewalski horse, addax + thorny devil.
+
Free update:
  • terrain paint selector, lets people choose the terrain paints they want to use on a map.
  • Animal parameter selector in sandbox, lets people choose the parameters for the animals that are spawned in sandbox, including stats, coat color, and age.
  • Updates animal color variation to include more obvious differences between individuals.
  • Free animals: dromedary, bighorn sheep.

Fall DLC: Forests biome pack.
6+1 and 50 new forest foliage pieces.
Tasmanian devil, red deer, malabar giant squirrel, gibbon, spider monkey, tree kangaroo + chameleon.
+
Free update:
  • brachiation for gibbons, spider monkeys, and existing animals like orang utans. Will only be possible with a select few trees and ropes, which will get an additional tag called 'brachiate'.
  • Ability to create linked zoos in Challenge mode, just like you can in franchise mode. Will share animal storage and conservation points.
  • Free animals: wisent, American black bear.

Winter DLC: Taiga biome pack.
6+1 and 50 new taiga foliage pieces.
Amur leopard, golden takin, wolverine, chamois, saiga, pallas cat + sand lizard.
+
Free update:
  • Playground items, which are new guest interaction objects.
  • Gene bank tool, which is a way to store the essence of your best male animals so you can still have their offspring after they pass away. Has limited storage capacity.
  • Free animal: Spectacled bear.

DLC 1 : Bird Pack

Introduction of aviaries. Bigger pack, would cost more (20 bucks) but would have more animals (10 instead of 5) with, of course, the aviary construction pieces.

Habitat animals:
Secretary Bird
Grey Crowned Crane
Emu

Aviary animals:
Golden eagle
Snowy owl
Toco toucan
Rhinoceros Hornbill
Hyacinth Macaw
Scarlet Ibis
Griffon Vulture

DLC 2 : Northern Asia pack

Back to a classic 4+1 pack with russian and mongol style architecture pieces.

Habitat animal :
Amur Leopard
Takin
Przeswalski Horse
Wolverine

Aviary animal : Mandarin Duck

DLC 3 : Small Mammals pack

A 8 animals pack.

Habitat animals :
Tasmanian Devil
Bennett's Wallaby
Raccoon
Sloth
Golden Lion Tamarin
Asian Small Clawed Otter
African Porcupine

Aviary animal : some Bat species

DLC 4 : Argentinian Pampa pack

Another 4+1 pack with more south american architecture.

Habitat animals:
Capybara
White-nosed Coati
Maned Wolf
Mara

Aviary animal : Caracara

I'm being very ambitious with the bird pack but hey, that's the minimum when it comes to bird and that's a dream bet anyway. The game would still lack monkeys species after those pack so if I could plan another pack it would be a monkey pack I guess. We would also lack in aquatic birds but I would also plan an aquarium pack with some bird added for the year after. Aviary animals would replace exhibit animals which would also leave some gaps (ie no chameleon, no cobra yet), but eh it would need 2 years of pack to make the game feel really complete in its animal selection I think.

Overall, most of the popular picks are in some of these packs, as they make up for 10 or the most 15 requested animals rn.

I think I'd personally stick to Geographically themed packs, because I feel it makes it a bit easier to theme them. An Aviary pack would definitely be first priority, but honestly there are so many options there that'd all be equally good, I'm not going to do it. Sticking to five As such:

North Asian Pack
(Amur) Leopard
Saiga
Przewalski's horse
Tanuki/Racoon Dog
Red-crowned Crane
Exhibit: Chinese Giant Salamander

India Pack
Sloth Bear
Sacred Langur
Markhor
Yak
Greater Adjutant
Exhibit: A flying lizard species

South America Pack II
Capybara
Spectacled Bear
Scarlet Ibis
Giant Armadillo
Ocelot
Exhibit: Blue Poison Arrow Frog

Islanders Pack: New Zealand and Madagascar
Kakapo
Aye-aye
Fossa
Little Blue Penguin
Indri
Exhibit: Panther Chameleon

These aren't necessarily what I'd consider my absolute favourites in all cases, but I feel they give a good spread of interesting options in each?

I'm betting that next year we'll see at most 2 final location packs (1 in Asia for India/Japan/Middle East/Greater Asia/North Asia/Himalayas, and Central America), with much higher bets on biome packs (desert/grassland/taiga/temperate/tropical/tundra). My expectations won't be shifting much beyond this.

Ideally, no more scenery packs, just animal packs of at least 8 with a much more intense focus on non-mammals, because they are taking up far too much space in the rosters than is fair (and I say that as I love fuzzballs).

I would hope for:
Aviary pack - completely focused on flying animals with all the required mechanics and pieces in the free update. Hopefully the addition of flying for peafowl and flamingos, with the option to pinion appropriate species conducted once a year by vets (give them somet useful to do). Would be ok with one bat species, but no more due to the underrepresentation of non-mammals already.
Oceania pack - to fill in some of the essentials missed in the Australia pack, plus more birds guaranteed (Philippine eagle, kiwi and kagu plz).
Northern Asia pack - for the much requested Przewalski's horse, amur leopard, wolverine, musk ox, plus my beloved Himalayan monal and golden eagle (there has to be a reason frontier made a southeast Asia specifically pack, right?)
Pantanal/Cerrado/Amazonia pack - for the much requested capybara, small primates, tropical birds, crab eating fox, culpeo (let me dream ok), maned wolf etc. Maybe even an amazonian manatee...

Of course I would love for there to be more (and there's certainly still a lot of ground to cover), so here are some more I could see happening:
Middle East pack - very underrepresented, could fill in some essential desert slots
India pack - chock full of choices, many of the species could be fairly easy "reskins" from existing animals like blackbuck, green peafowl, asiatic lion etc. plus the requested "generic" monkeys
China pack - same as above, could include our first habitat amphibian (giant salamander, though I grant you this would also fit nicely in North Asia)
Pacific pack - could encompass a lot of island chains (Indonesia, New Guinea, Hawaii, Galapagos etc.) and include the requested gibbon, along with tiny island species like the nene goose, New Caledonian crow, galapagos penguin, Hawai'ian monk seal, boobies (that's still funny even at my age) and many more I might not even know exist.

Honestly we could carry on forever. I'd be cool with generic biome packs too, I just suspect frontier will continue with the region theme as they have so far, just more focused.

Im seeing Frontier will focus in animal packs. Since after the release we have 4 regional theme packs in 2019-2020 (Artic, South America, Australia and Aquatic). 2 animal packs (South East Asia and North America) and 2 regional theme (Africa and Europe). In total we have 6 regional theme packs and 2 animal packs. Why not these 4 dlc focused in animals?
My ideas for these animal packs.
  • Endagered Species
  • Oceania
  • Eurasia
  • Amazon

Birds
  • Macaw sp (Scarlet; Hyacinth; Blue-and-yellow)
  • Toco Toucan
  • Hornbill sp (Great; Southern ground; Northern red-billed)
  • Owl sp (Snowy; Eurasian Eagle; Great grey; Barn owl)
  • Vulture sp (King; Andean condor; Bearded; Egyptian; Griffon)
  • Eagle sp (Bald; Harpy; Steller's sea; Golden)
  • Ducks/ Swans/Goose sp (African pygmy goose; Mandarin duck; Mallard; King eider; Swan goose; Bar-headed goose; Wood duck; Black swan; Mute swan)
  • Galliformes (Helmeted guineafowl; Ocellated turkey; Golden pheasant/Silver pheasant)
  • Dalmatian pelican (NT)
  • Atlantic puffin (VU)
Critically Endangered
  • Saiga antelope (CR)
  • Chinese giant salamander (CR)
  • Somali wild donkey (CR)
  • Black rhinoceros (CR)
  • Axolotl (CR) [exhibition]
  • Dama gazelle (CR)
  • Northern hairy-nosed wombat (CR)
  • Hirola (CR) -- The world population of hirola is estimated at 300-500 animals, there are no hirola in captivity and the wild population continues to decline. According to the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature "The loss of Hirola would be the first extinction of a genus of mammals in continental Africa in modern human history."
Marine
  • Southern elephant seal (LC) -- The male of this species is the largest pinniped that exists today and, probably, also the largest that has existed in the history of planet Earth.
  • Ocean sunfish (VU)
  • Giant oceanic manta ray (EN)
  • Beluga whale (LC)
  • Whale shark (EN)
  • Sand tiger shark (CR)
  • Orca (DD)
  • Picasso triggerfish [exhibition]
Mountain
  • Ethiopian Wolf (EN) -- It is one of the rarest and most threatened canid species on the planet, as its total population does not reach 550 individuals found in several isolated areas of the mountains of Ethiopia
  • Markhor (NT)
  • Mountain goat (LC)
  • Andean mountain cat (EN) -- It is one of the least known felines and is considered the most threatened species in the American continent. Fewer than 1,500 individuals are thought to exist in the wild.
  • Golden takin (VU)
  • Alpine marmot (LC)
  • Golden snub-nosed monkey (EN)
  • Alpine newt (LC) [exhibition]

Well, "dream bet" isn't really possible, because I'm not going to bet on what would be pure fantasy.

I think a Tropical Pack is very likely, and I think the likely inclusions are sitting right there on the meta wishlist - capybara, small-clawed otter, red river hog. The gibbon is also a possible contender here, or the tree kangaroo.

I wouldn't be surprised by a grasslands/desert pack either. Here we'd get the dromedary, addax, baboon, and emu.

Endangered Species would make a good animal pack (and would include the Tasmanian devil).

Then I think we'll get a birds pack eventually, which will probably include the pelican.

FOUR DLC ONLY....where do I start? You could still make excellent animal packs for Oceania, South America, Africa, and Eurasia (Europe + Asia)...

I think the regions that are lacking the MOST diversity are the continents of Oceania and South America.
1) Oceania Animal Pack
  • Tasmanian Devil
  • Wombat
  • Emu
  • Platypus
  • Tree Kangaroo
  • Kiwi
  • Echidna
  • Wallaby
2) South America Animal Pack
  • Capybara
  • Maned Wolf
  • Rhea
  • Sloth
  • Ocelot
  • Howler Monkey
  • Spectacled Bear
  • Giant Armadillo
I would like to see some DLC's that introduce different formats, such as LARGE expansions that introduce aquarium habitat animals/exhibit animals and aviaries/aviary exhibits.
3) Aviary Expansion DLC
  • Bald Eagle
  • California Condor
  • Golden Eagle
  • Eurasian Eagle Owl
  • Hoopoe
  • Weaver Birds (large exhibits)
  • Lammergeier/Bearded Vulture
  • Yellow Crested Cockatoo
  • Galah
  • Palm Cockatoo
  • Rainbow Lorikeet
  • Kookaburra
  • Superb Lyrebird
  • Bali Mynah
  • Great Hornbill
  • Scarlet Ibis
  • Toco Toucan
  • Scarlet Macaw
  • Military Macaw
  • Hyacinth Macaw (The game will need some diversity and reskinning macaws would be very easy...)
4) Aquarium Expansion DLC
  • Sand Tiger Shark
  • Hammerhead Shark
  • Walrus
  • Sea Otter
  • West Indian Manatee
  • Emperor Penguin
  • Spotted Eagle Rays
  • Electric Eel
  • Giant Pacific Octopus
  • Red Bellied Piranha
  • Arapaima
  • Leafy Seadragon
  • Peacock Mantis Shrimp
  • Moray Eel
  • Mudskippers
  • Clown Fish
  • Blue Tang
  • Lionfish
  • Arowana
  • Jellyfish (small exhibits)
However, when you look at the meta-wishlist the most represented continent, Africa, still has the most requested species. So Africa, although I would not vote for this pack, hypothetically it would still make a superb DLC (Baboon, Crested Porcupine, Red River Hog, Fossa, Scimitar Oryx, Greater Kudu, Addax, Honey Badger, Caracal, Serval, African Leopard, Nile Crocodile). Not to mention the habitat birds such as...Secretary Birds, Marabou Stork, African Grey Crowned Cranes, Shoebill Stork and Guineafowl.

Another pack I would not vote for is Eurasia but it still has A LOT of potential animals remaining...(Gibbon, Amur Leopard, Raccoon Dog, Asian Small Clawed Otter, Takin, Dromedary Camel, Przewalski's Horse, Saiga Antelope, Wild Boar, Wolverine, Red Fox, Jackal, Musk Ox, Sloth Bear, Pere David's Deer, Giant Salamander). Not to mention...Japanese Red Crowned Cranes, Hornbills, Western Capercaillie.

1. Aviary pack
- When it comes to animals, I guess I just don't care what's in it. As long as we have parrots and owls I'll be satisfied with it.

2. Petting/Domestic zoo pack (dream pack)
- I suppose many people would find this one as the most boring pack, but for me, it is my second most wanted pack. A weird choice I know, but can't help it.

The animals that I would personally love to have in this pack are:
• Goats
• Rabbits
• Horses/ponies
• Sheep
• Pigs
• Cows
• Donkeys
• Chicken
• etc.

3. Random animal pack
- The pack that adds all popular species from all continents that are currently not in the game.

Example:
• African leopard
• Capybara
• Sloth
• Przewalski's horse
• Takin
• Maned wolf
• gibbon
• Red river hog
• musk ox
• etc.

4. If the random animal pack doesn't fill the gap, then the last one would be Oceania or Brazil pack.

Oceania:
• Tasmanian devil
• wombat
• emu
• platypus
• Tree kangaroo
• etc.

Brazil:
• Ocelot
• maned wolf
• capybara
• Tamandua
• South American coati
• Three-toed sloth
• etc

Well my dreams and my bets don't really go hand in hand. But if I had to bet on what we're getting if only 4 DLCs were left I would say:

A 10 birds aviary pack
Desert animal pack
Tropical animal pack
Taiga/Tundra animal pack

• Sheep
• Pigs
• Cows
• Donkeys
• Chicken
• etc.
Farm Simulator exists 👍

My dream packs for 2022 are four animal packs. We can still get some pieces in the updates, but I want to focus more on the animals.
