Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Aarrr, Upper Memory Block!!! I remembered this line in the dos config (config.sys?)

I actually don't know the details behind the scene, I just tried to remember which config is needed for specific game then mix and match them in the mutli-boot floopy. That was fun!!!
There were also files and buffers to contend with in autoexec.bat iirc.

But my computing (lack of) knowledge goes back further than that :D

FE2 did need himem & EMM386, plus at least 590 kb free conventional memory AFTER loading everything config.sys & autoexec.bat included. :)
Yeah, it needed EMS instead of XMS, while FFE did run in XMS, utilising DOS4GW.
God, now you reminded me of those horror days when I had to battle memory allocation and initialization orders for hours before playing ANYTHING on DOS. Gee, thanks. 😐

When I first got my Astrad CPC464, this was the type of thing I used to "enjoy" - especially when one got a poked data address wrong:

Made around 400 mill bopping pirates. Got another 50 but too lazy to find an IF.

Only issues I've had in Horizons: All ships pulled from pre-patch storage need fire groups set up. Enemy contacts all turning red, seems to be working OK.
Might try a Guardian site tomorrow as there might be issues with that.

Need to catch up on the Galnet storylines. Salvation? No idea.

I have a hired pilot as well. His name is Karl. He goes everywhere with me. He gets paid when I turn in missions. He gets paid when I sell exploration data. He gets paid when I do some trading, or mining, or...anything.

Most of the things I do don't require Karl's help. But I keep him around anyway, because when I do need him he's quite fun to have around, and he makes me a lot of money, too.

He earns his keep in the end. I barely notice that 7% I pay him anyway -- I make so many credits any more, it just doesn't matter to me.

He's not Elite yet, hence the 7%. But he's been getting better and better and it's been fun to see the changes. Perhaps one day we'll both hit Elite.

I used to hire and fire but not anymore. Karl is my crew :)

Funny, I recently bound it to a joystick button...in the hopes that I can try to use it in combat someday.
I had FA Off just on my keyboard for an unnecessarily long time, but now I managed to rearrange the bindings on my throttle, so I have easy access to it.
The problem after the change was that the button was previously used to toggle the free-look, so I had several incidents where instead of looking on one side, I spun my ship at the worst time possible... 🤦‍♂️
