Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Update 9 | Immediate Issues Of Note

Update on situation with guardian sites after patch 9:
  • I logged in to Horizon, because I desperately needed to surface-mine Phosphorous and Sulfur
  • I quickly realized how much fun surface mining used to be
  • I tried a Guardian structure in Horizon (after yesterdays small patch) for comparison. Results: No floating objects and ,materials, everythings works as intended. No crashes, bugs or CTDs, no issues at all. But: Sentinels are actually a notable opponent in Horizon. And they fire rockets. Realization: Sentinels in Odyssey do NOT fire rockets. they are much less fun to fight, because apart from having a lot less bite, they also behave thick as a brick. I think I am gonna do the Guardian stuff in Horizon for the time being.

Hello there, good day....
When can we expect exobiology to be taken care of???
Many people are "out there" just to explore, and the fact that is broken ruins the whole game experience.... not much to do until it's fixed.

Thank you for your time....

Hi everyone,
hi Frontier-team,

regarding the firegroup bug...
Usually my firegroups are in a very specific order to be effectivly in combat / exploration and so on. For example, kill warrant scanner is in a firegroup earlier than the hull-damage weapons and my heat-sink engineered beam lasers.
I own around 35 ships and just can't remember every specific firegroup that I set for each ship.

The firegroup information for each ship on any given player account should be logged in a file, pre-patch date, right? So why don't restore a pre-patch backup-version of the firegroup data? Even if the firegroup data would be weeks old pre patch, everything is better than no firegroups set at all.

Thanks + your'e welcome.

Just wanted to add my voice to this. Experienced a few things since Update 9:

  • Firegroups resetting. This is in Ship and in SRV. Definitely once at least, may have happened a couple of times (can't remember tbh)
  • Unable to scan biologicals - specifically Bacteria and Tussocks, tried at multiple sites without success. Others such as stratum and those spiral fungus ones seem fine.
  • Just today, I think my codex is wiped. I'm getting codex entries for stars and planets - and I'm fairly sure I've seen those types before.
Currently out in the black, so no idea if there are issues for me with anything else (yet)

any type of "plant" which is not solid (ex: that my SRV won't hit and can pass through) I can't scan.... bacterias included...
Stuff that is solid, and my srv can "hit" I've been able to scan....

This has been my experience since patch 9.... of course it is only related to the stuff I caught along the way (not saying it is a pattern for all things, but surelly has been a pattern for me, on the stuff I have found since then)...

I cannot imagine someone very far away, deprived of getting his/her name on the codex because of this :( it's really really bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, also my experience. Let's hope this will be fixed soon. :)

I got my old firegroups back by opening Controls, re-mapping just 1 or 2 keys, hit apply, log off, log on, and everything was as it was before the update. I think your personal firegroup mappings are actually stored in a file on your local machine, somewhere in AppData, you just need to force the exe to write and read it.
On the other hand, I had already made my custom file with my commander name on it, according to the instructions below, so that might have helped, as I could select it from the dropdown menue.
Anyway, you may want to have a local backup, and/or sensibly named mappings, and in addition this is just a nice insight on how the mapping actually works in ED:

Made no difference. Are you sure you're talking about Fire Groups and not Key-Binds?

Just played after Update. Planets look mighty fine, SRV sounds crisp.
I had the firegroup issue, and initially could not press my mapped "apply" (spacebar) button in the firegroup menue, either. It had no effect, although it did work in all other cockpit panel menues. I went to the Options - Controls, remapped some keys, logged out, logged in again, and my old firegroups were restored, all was peachy. I thought it hadn´t read the mapping file properly on first launch.
What I noticed, though, is that Guardian artefacts and Guardian materials among ruins and Structures behaved wildly today: items would float some 100ft up in the air, randomly drop from there at certain points. Materials from shot down Sentinels would either randomly vanish , or flip up into the air and then sometimes come raining down at some point, and if destructible panels were shot, the materials would sometimes, not always, flip off at insane speeds out of targeting distance. There seems to be a problem with locating the items in the grid, they seem to be randomly allocated all over the space in 3 dimensions

Floating materials and artefacts on guardian sites with latest update confirmed :-(
Next patch which will maybe correct this issue in january. I have not much hope this gets fixed since then.
It had been written to the list from sally after update 9. Meanwhile issue ist not fixed, therefore no longer in the list of known issues.
Thats bad news. I thought I could play a little over christmas holidays but this is a real showstopper and so I will stop playing until January and hope again it will be fixed until then.

Is it only me expiriencing dead bodies flying up and then down when I disembark from SRV? Observed at crash sites. Like invisible shock wave - they are flying 20 meters up and then fall back on the ground.

My problem when my firegroup was gone, was that I couldn´t even reset it, because the "apply"-key (spacebar) didn´t work in this particular panel. Refrshing my keybindings did solve that issue and also brought the firegroups back, so yes, in my case it did help.

ok, more and more patch 9 seems to be a dumpster fire. I am really forgiving usually but wow. If there was something done to the engine in order to make a future platform merger possible, then please stop what you´re doing and forget about the merger. ED wouldn´t be the first great game to be completely destroyed by trying to merge consoles and PC on a common code ( Blacklight, Hawken...). And that´s not worth it. You either damage the engine beyond repair or water down the game experience to a point where it´s not fun anymore. Let the PC and console each have their own code and slightly different experiences, that´s mightily better than breaking the whole thing altogether.
