Elite Dangerous: Horizons & Odyssey Update 16/12/2021 Notes

Any VR users experiencing this please add a Confirmation to this issue report:


Only one or two more required, then you’ll be able to vote for it - I suggest temporarily shifting one of your votes seeing as it’s a serious issue for some VR players; although I’ve only experienced it a couple of times, I’ll be using my VR FSS Orbit Lines vote for it because we now know that one’s not going to be looked at any time soon.

I have not seen this issue in either EDH or EDO. I just tested your scenario and couldn't reproduce it. Here are my VR graphics settings to see if that makes a difference for you. I set it per below after deleting the contents of the graphics folder.

EDH:
Texture quality = Medium
Shadow quality = Low
Bloom = off
Blur = off
Antialiasing = Off
Supersampling = X1.0
Ambient Occlusion = Low
Environment Quality = Medium
FX Quality = Low
Depth of Field = Off
Material Quality = Medium
HMD Image Quality = X1.5
Gal Map = High

EDO:
Texture quality = High
Texture Filter Quality = Anisotropic X4
Directional Shadow quality = Low
Spot Shadow Quality = Low

What I do see is random hesitation when approaching stations or ring planet. It lasts for a few ms and it heartbeats every second or so. It doesn't always happen and it usually goes away after a few seconds - perhaps after I've moved beyond station or rings. This started with U9.
 
It is a damn site more than a minor inconvenience to me!!!!
Might not be a problem if you are elite as you are.

As I said, a problem to one player is considered minor to another. All of the introduced issues should have been addressed, particularly as there are some for whom the 'fixes' didn't take. The post I responded to considered another's 'problem' a minor inconvenience, and their own issue to be much more important! Odd, isn't it?

I don't think my rank is going to affect the noted issue's impact much, I'll find out later.

Absolutely true - but I got the impression the post I responded to was waiting for a patch to restore his fire groups, which I suspect won't happen - we all have to take a few seconds to rebuild them and then carry on. A minor nuisance. Now, if you're one of those having the "lock-up" issue, that's a bigger pain by far... I'm not, fortunately for me, but I know several who are.

I don't know if I have the lock-up yet, I've only been flying 2 ships since both patches, and they have simple firegroups... When I get my Corvette out later I'll know for sure.

Nothing as reaffirming as "please let us know if this patch actually fixed it" a couple of times in a row.
 
Honestly I kinda get the feeling we would all have been a little better off just taking a year off after release and coming back to it later when it's looking more like a proper game.

This is what I'm doing while avidly keeping an eye on the "updates". Blatantly not time to return yet.

My guess is March/April ish at around update 14/15. Well I hope 🤞🏻

Can't wait to play the game I paid for and am patiently waiting for it to reach completion.

I have to say that, apart from the very beginning, I 'am' playing the game I paid for. Yes, there are niggles (every game has them) but FDEV has put most of them right. Yes, there are still issues they need to work on, but it certainly doesn't stop me from enjoying the game. Give it a go. You'll probably be surprised.
 
I think they fixed empty groups on the right side of right-most non-empty group. Next to fix is to remove empty groups in the middle and on the left side of non-empty groups! ;)
How it cannot be tested and fixed alltogether?
Yes, I am still able to reproduce this problem like on this screenshot:

In this specific case on the screenshot, as all groups are empty, empty groups on the right side of right-most non-empty group may already be fixed.
However, the bug when all groups are empty is still there.

Thanks for the info - I’ve only had the issue a couple of times but others have reported getting it every couple of seconds and it’s pretty much rendered the game unplayable for them.

There are more posts about this in the VR bug thread (link in my signature, or just go to the VR sub-forum) discussing this, but any Confirmations are always greatly appreciated - only one more at the moment required 👍
 
Stuttering / Hitching / Unsmooth flight around space stations has returned.

This is not purely down to low FPS. It is occuring even with 40-50 fps, movements are not smooth and when docking in FA OFF although it has improved the station jerks spasmodically the closer you come into land. Have also seen instances of the NPCs rubberbanding outside of stations again but that was a rare occurance. The jerkiness of the FA OFF landing is different to the general hitching / unsmooth nature of how the game is reacting around stations btw. The game is stuttering for very minute moments making all your inputs unsmooth.

Not only 40-50, but having even 120 fps in space there is noticeable shuttering at times - approaching planets, stars.

In addition there is significant (!!!) FPS drop while taking off from the station/planetary port after setting route on galaxy map - from typical 50-70 to 5-10.
 
Hi all. Just a heads up we are aware that some Commanders are still experiencing issues with firegroups and are investigating. If you are experiencing the issue still, please can you continue to contribute on the Issue Tracker or share the steps here.
The only issue I had last night with fire groups was when I purchased a new ship last night. I removed hardpoints and added a DSS. Once all my modules were added I went to firegroups and did not have a cursor to assign firegroups. I had to install a hardpoint first, then I could assign firegroups, then I removed the hardpoint.

This is on Xbox Series S, Horizons. Outfitting a Krait Phantom.
 
I agree with the sentiment, it's good to see some progress being made. I too am very focused on the hostiles bug, saving up for a fleet carrier so pirate missions is my preferred method of getting cash fast. With this bug, this avenue is effectively closed unless I can see who is actually firing on me....

I would say that I hope this is a learning experience for FDev. This is undoubtedly the worst of the patches in terms of introducing significant errors, requiring at time of writing 2 hotfixes to back out some of the stuff broken. I would honestly hope that someone senior in FDev uses this as a turning point. No-one forced them to release the update, none of the users were screaming for it, and no-one other than the senior leadership at FDev is responsible for the antisocial working or overtime needed to fix this. This is very much a mess of FDev's own making. I do think some kind of statement is now required to outline to the user community how they are going to do things differently and learn from this almightly dumpster fire.

If the EDO release itself wasn’t a turning point, what more do you really expect?
 
I agree, this is a major issue. You run the risk of shooting your own players/NPCs because your FOF system is totally banjaxed. It needs to be sorted, and soon!

May not be a problem 1 on 1 but I am bounty hunting for my sins in a RES with dozens of ships and because some are mining they are pointy.
The problem comes when you are attacked by fast moving escorts who are hard to visually target and it is impossible to cycle through all the ships to try and find who is attacking you.
It is spoiling my game at the moment as I am sticking to the medium RES sites as the high ones are just too difficult without being able to use the target hostile.
Roll on the New Year ( I wonder if I can blame Boris for this problem!!!)

Off topic, but do you actually copy paste that Inara picture in every post? You can put those in your signature (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/account/signature) so you won't have to do that all the time (and so I won't have to see it either).
 
Setting the fire groups on my Krait Phantom, exploration build, no weapons, also worked.

I'm far away from my FC. The big question is: Are the fire groups gone from all my ships and SRVs?

PS: I'm in EDO.
