What’s the recent consensus on Odyssey and VR?

Used to be a big ED fan (built a cockpit for it). Reading about the Odyssey launch was so disheartening I stopped playing the game ever since (didn’t want to sink more time into the game when VR seemed like it was on the way out).

I’ve heard mixed reports that things have gotten better, but what’s the real word consensus? At this point, I’m happy to just avoid the shooter elmenents, but I don’t want to get back into ED unless VR in Odyssey is otherwise fun and functional.

For reference, I’m running a 8700k 16gb ram, 3080 ti for a Valve Index.

TL;dr is it worth diving back in?

My system: i7 8700, 32GB RAM, 3070ti, Quest 2.

There are still bugs (some very annoying) but for me performance is now fine - I don’t get the drops into stuttering around planetary ports now as in previous Updates. It’s still worse than Horizons on the same settings but I’m willing to take the hit to be able to experience the new worlds.

I find the virtual flatscreen shooter bits fun even without the shooting bits - I’m now used to being able to jump out of my SRV to do stuff around surface settlements.

As to whether it’s worth you diving back in? If you liked the game before then there’s plenty more stuff to do now, and in some very scenic places as well.

I’ve just started again. I completely stopped just after odyssey was released - I was a pre release purchase. Odyssey did not kill it for me was just during spring and summer I get out more

It seems to me that I can do exactly what I did in Horizons in Odyssey. Transport missions, massacre stacking, black box retrieval etc etc. But I can also do some on foot missions, I quite like delivery and collection missions that get you to fly to a settlement and then depart on foot around the settlement and find what your there to collect. Sure the on foot stuff is not Half Life Alyx but it’s useable in VR. Can’t say I’ve tried any form of fighting on foot yet but never say never.
