To Solo Play Players: If You Could Disable PVP, Would You Play in Open Play Mode Instead?

Chicken & egg situation.

Pirates want to rp but their victims almost always flee or clog on them.

So they turn to ganking and kill their victims without a word.

Victims who were fine with a bit of piracy rp become disillusioned because they keep getting killed even after submitting. So they either flee without giving a chance for the pirate to rp or clog.
The whole pirate thing eludes me. And basically some dude stopping me to have some "rp" for leeching off stuff - not what I really desire.

Let's face it - this thread, like any other Hotel California thread - has degraded to a bunch of trolls and sock puppets entering and leaving and dumping entitled claims to a game no one would like to play. And it's the pretty clear answer to the OP that it's not just PvP or not that makes players join a mode - it's also the community they can expect. Honestly I don't see much of a desirable community to join in open.

I see no problem with that. You just have to deal with it.
I have also no problems with that, I think you got that wrong.

I just meant to point out that you presumably don't play much or at all because you don't like features of the game (engineers).
You also don't like piracy, which you stated. But other players like the game as it is, and other players often state they would like rp piracy.

So maybe it's you that doesn't get that point. Maybe it's me talking out of my ARX 🤷‍♂️

Most CMDRs first experience of piracy ends up with their explosion because they don't know what they're doing.
They'll either not know how their ship works, or how to communicate, or how pirates work, then they get salty in chat, then try to run away, then they explode.

Pirates do not resort to ganking. They resort to piracy. That might look like ganking to the terminally uneducated/salty af forum posters, but it isn't. It's just how piracy works.

Ganking, is a different story, it just happens to be told by the same terminally uneducated/salty af forum posters mentioned previously, because they don't know how their ships work, how to communicate, or how pirates work.... stop me if you've heard this before.... then they get salty in chat, then they try to run away, then they explode.
Dunno, no demands, shoot immediately, it MAY be piracy. But most likely it is just ganking.

I think Frontier Developments could get some really interesting data from at least attempting an Open PVE environment.

Would be interesting to see the population differences alone between Open PVE and Open PVP, for example... and just how quickly those numbers would shift from one to the other.

I never liked piracy. Engineers has nothing to do with it.

How about the GTA V way? All open lobbies, if someone attacks you and destroys your ship without reason, THEY pay for the rebuy. Also, multiple instances of ganking puts all of them into their own lobbies where they can then pick on each other to their hearts content. Just a thought 💭

I think it wouldn't change anything.
People would log into their mode of choice depending on their mood.
Other people would click the first option on the left.*
People would find ways to grief outside of solo.
5Cers would 5C in solo/open PvE.
Gankers would gank in open.

*this is propably the most influencing part.

As luck would have it, Frontier Developments put all the tools required to do this test, in the game for anyone to use, at any point they like.

Has it been 'interesting' though... ? No, not really. We've just ended up with pages of forum nonsense from people who refuse to use those tools.
Oh there is Open PVE mode? That is nice :)
