Escape Pods

Instead of dying and exploding with your ship, what about having a short animation of you escaping with an escape pod and fading to black before spawning back? I think it would be more lore friendly instead of dying and be alive again… also, I was thinking that it could add new gameplay mechanics.

1. Escaping could be clicking a button under X seconds before exploding
2. Players around could get an alert that a commander need help with escape pod location
3. If player collect escape pod and deliver to a station, he gets some money and material + the player who got destroy get half of the thing he lost back in a mail.
4. Players who destroy you are unable to collect your escape pod to prevent exploit.

what do you think?

Thank you

I like the cutscene idea, but I'd skip the rest of it. I want to get straight back into the game, not wait around in the hope that I might get picked up.

Originally ED was going to get 'Ironman' mode where you had to eject manually or die IIRC.

What happens when I scoop up the pod and...don't give it to the authorities though?

Speaking of waiting time after being ejected in the escape pod... just a thought.

Why wouldn't one be allowed to create alt character under the same account?

While the main character is floating in escape pod, we could be allowed to play for its "friend", "brother" or just hired crew mate. Having access to all the fleet, cash account, modules etc. Just different name, ranks, rep and so on.

We would be able to fly and rescue main character ourselves. Or just play parallel storyline, and main character could be escaped after a while automatically (with the help of other players or NPC).

Why would I play under another character, I have one, that's me.

Because you didn't survive in first hand. Fly safe and stay alive!

Seriously, why not? I thought it would not force the game to break rules - teleport instantly, revive dead etc.

Nah, my idea was exactly to fade in to black screen and spawn back right after. In the meantime people would find your past life escape pod. You wouldn’t wait in space for someone to find you before spawning.

So one could discover own escape pod, investigate cause of death and avoid getting in the deadly situation by altering the past? 😜

I would like a system that works in conjunction with ship interiors and the crash landing suggestions. Once our ships are damaged enough to explode a timer counts down and we have to navigate through violent shaking, fire, wreackage and steam to an airlock for EVA or an escape pod. If you manage to survive the explosion you will either be drifting in space or in the lifepod. You should be able to leave the pod at anytime for EVA. The lifepod recharges your battery, air supply and protects you from extreme temperatures each time you return inside, but it can't be steered but it can be pushed around. Without the pod its a race against time and the hazards of space. In the pod you can choose to be rescued by apex interstellar (or some rescue rangers clone) or send a beacon to your friends or local commanders to be picked up via ship. If you are picked up by an npc rescue ship, it will drop in with a thunderous boom and approach the pod and open its cargo scoop. You will have to exit the pod and steer yourself toward the cargo hatch.

If you are without a pod and asphyxiate you return to the death screen. If you get boiled alive or frozen completely you return to the death screen. If a commander/pirate shoots the pod while you are inside it, you return to the death screen. If you get kidnapped by a real player or npc you can choose to place a crime on your kidnapper and return to the death screen.

If it's recovery of the ship stored information that gets lost in a crash, what might be a solution is a black box gets left at the ... kinetic disassembly point containing all your survey and mapping data, as well as any bounties you might have uncollected. I guess as a matter of course, all fines and notoriety would have to come forward attached as well. But this box has a transponder coded so that only the ship owner can track it, and will transmit a locator beacon for 30 days. After that time, the black box and data would be lost forever. That would give you time to get to wherever you might have crashed and recover data, even if it was towards the far reaches of the galaxy.

It would be cool to go EVA and recover items from the fragments of your ship like a black box. It might pass the time and add an element of risk if you could leave the escape pod and physically gather the black box and other things before you summon a rescue ship.

I'm still a mere Horizons noob... Don't have the machine horsepower to support Odyssey yet. Hopefully I can get a new machine or they can further optimize it soon!

I guess you didn't read my previous post, I have a dedicated team of rescue ranger just to pull me out of that sort of danger;

In the event a pilot is critically injured or loses their ship, they are recovered by the Pilots Federation Rescue Rangers, a free service extended to all Pilots Federation members

So yes I did survive, and no I don't need to "play" as another character, what do think this is, a game?

I said it wrong, you survived - you just appeared to get into escape pod and waited those rangers to resque you. And whole universe was on pause waiting for you coming out of escape pod in safe place... Or was it teleportation?

Ok, I heard your opinion - you would not play for another character. You prefer to close eyes on this inconsistency in gameplay. That's fine. It was just a thought.

Ok, next time you die just sit there and wait a calculated time that would be necessary for a player to fly out, find your escape pod, pick it up, carry it back to the bubble or wherever the last station you docked at is, consistency restored. me I prefer to play the game!

And no, it's not that I would not play another character, it's simply that wouldn't be me, when I play these games I am a person, one person, not two or four or however many you and other players want, that character is me, and it would be hugely inconsistent to suddenly appear as the same consciousness in another player body, but of course you are quite happy to ignore the inconsistency of that because it suits you!
