Codex Combat stat question.

I have a question on how the two stats in highlighted boxes are increased. I have made progress on them, but dropping into random Wars or Civil Wars sometimes increases them, other times, no change no matter the number of fights completed. If anyone knows the mechanic or parameters to increase the values I would appreciate the input. See the attached pic:

I suspect it depends by the faction one chose to fight for on a CZ, the settlement owning faction should result in defended, the settlement assaulting faction as conquered. But it is just a guess.
 
Going by my own stats, I'd wager it's the number of different settlements you have participated in and it only counts them once (so multiple CZs in the same settlement during the same war only adds 1 to either counter).

Been traveling around, fighting for different factions and different settlements, but only seems to increment once in a while. Even if in a completely new, never been to system. Tried controlling faction wars, and wars between two minor factions. They updates just seem random, as I am obviously not noticing what triggers the increment. Thanks for the replies.

It's not completely impossible that these stats (just as some others they added or amended since Odyssey) are just broken.

Must be. been in same place all morning, then suddenly it incremented by 2? Too bad the game doesn't explain the stats at all.

For ages since launch every completed combat zone counted twice (always an even number, always incrementing by 2), but it seems they ninja fixed that in Update 8 or 9 or so. The last time I checked, it only incremented by 1. I'm not even that miffed they don't explain anything, my bigger disappointment over the years has been that it's so limited in scope. These kind of games attract tons of players who just love statistics and they just keep failing miserably on that front.

I know the Highs increment by 2, but I thought the lows only by 1. But been several months since I hit a low.
 
I'm not so sure about this, but I've been going around doing CZs in different settlements. The results (I meant the update in our codex) happens after the tick when the war is over between the minor factions fighting in that particular system. Say you hit a system that has 9 settlements with on-foot CZ. Once you hit them all, you will have to wait for the tick when the war is over by draw, won or lost for those particular minor factions. o7
