Strobe effect in Direct Mode with DK2

Anyone else getting this?
Extended mode is fine. 75fps almost all the time, no issues there, but in direct mode, the DK2 display flickers horribly. The mirrored display on the laptop screen is buttery smooth.

If I run the demo scene from the config tool, there is no problem on either display.

The FPS display is showing 75fps (visible on the laptop screen) but in the gfx settings the only refresh rate option is 60.01. (I'm pretty sure the laptop screen only supports 60).

Additionally, on shut down, an error report is always generated when in Direct mode, but not Extend mode.

Running 3.04, latest Rift SDK and firmware.

As you said, why put your hand in the fire?
But why you say is fine and after you say it flickers, maybe you made a typing mistake?

Fixed original post. Extended is fine, direct is not.

Why do I want Direct to work? So that when my 8yr old son plays or I am letting my colleagues at work have a play, I can see what they are doing on the laptop screen and guide them.

Mirrored desktop modes don't work, Windows thinks the combined resolution is 1080x960 or something daft like that.

You know - I read at least the subject if every thread in the first two pages of this forum and never saw that. Very useful info, thanks. I'll try that out tonight.

Still, the strobing thing needs fixing.

This is from official thread from developers:

Oculus Rift 'Direct HMD Access from Apps' Mode not currently supported:
Will cause crashes upon exiting the game
Will prevent you from running the game in fullscreen (even if Oculus is not in use)
Will cause stuttering while in-game

So I would think it is not worth struggling with until they fix it (if they will that is) :)

I'm pretty sure because of a bug currently you will not be able to use Direct Mode if you primary monitor cannot support 75hz. This is why you get judder/strobing because the rift is likely being pushed down to 60hz to be inline with your main monitor.
