Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Ah, here we go...

You're thinking of things from a standard game development standpoint. If they were making any normal single player game, sure, it would take a few years, tops. But they're working on one of the deepest, most involved, most incredible sci-fi space sims we've ever seen. Likely the only one of this magnitude we'll ever see, in our lifetime. Try to remember the ing scope of what they're doing here. Also, we've seen constant steady progress. If it was a scam, they would have taken the money and run like so many crowd funding projects in the past.

Otherwise the faithful haven't really dived in yet.

Interesting article on SC, with a very strange title (from page 18)...

And Noobifier's summary:
Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QON2fCxsxw

TL;DW - "its all fine."

He doesn't really go into the dates for SQ42/SC though, mainly focuses on the move to the UK and changes to offices there.

I still can't believe (well, i can) that CIG are pushing so much to get people back into the offices with new covid variants poping up with alarming frequency. And people seem to enjoy WfH and not having to face the daily commute.

He brings up problems CIG are facing having to work remotely and that's why they want to get back into the office. I'd posit CIG need to change their culture and practices to overcome those problems rather than hoping Covid is going to go away and push everyone back into working from offices.

Wonder how long before this thread gets Nightridered

Are you implying CIG flat out lies to the community?

Hell, i don't imply it, i say it directly. CIG do flat out lie to their community. And the community thanks them for doing so.

Seems strange popping in here every day looking at discussion on Star Citizen when nobody in our org is actively playing it...most haven't touched SC (including me) since just before the utterly vacuous and content gutted 3.16 patch dropped. Seems the current game of choice is Icarus, although not for me since I really don't like survival games no matter what guise they come under. I've had a quick look at it but it seems like just another collection of 'cut trees/break rocks/build stuff' tropes I really can't abide.

I'm currently enjoying Ready or Not with mates, another early access title but one heavily based on the old SWAT games. I've even got the urge to drag out the old modding tools for this one. RoN, even though it's still early access already has a great modding community with nearly 20 pages of current mods on the Nexus. The multiplayer co-op PvE gameplay is rock solid and a whole lot of fun... can't be bad at that :)

I remember them talking about these systems back in 2015/2016 and this is all they have to show? I honestly expected something more for 6 years work, there's nothing there, just a few pretty but ultimately boring, barren planets (and still nowhere near to being ingame).

Got a laugh out of the wiki on Nix;

moved into a vacated mining facility located in Delamar, a moon-sized asteroid deep within the system's asteroid belt.

Is that something like the meme "a small rock the size of a large rock"? How large is a moon? There's actually no defined minimum size for a moon and an asteroid can be large enough to be called a minor planet, it almost entirely depends on where they are found.

Every time I pop in there's another 20 or so pages, it's hard keeping up with you guys playing the forum game, we need forum engineering to let me read faster!

Hmm... added it to my watch list. But totally burned out on survival games, so probably won't get it. Coop session based game though, piques my interest.
Icarus certainly has something, all of the org guys are playing it solid and saying very good things...which is unusual in itself. I was tempted to pull the trigger on it just to join in...but I really don't like survival games...at all. Even the tiresome eating/drinking nonsense in Star Citizen is way too much of a very bad thing for me :censored:

I checked out some videos, it actually looks pretty good, whether it plays that way I don't know!

If it were up to me, I wouldn't recommend it at all...it only encourages game developers to make more of that survival based rubbish instead of decent games :D

Saying that, our org has played everything survival wise that's been touted as the new bestest thing, from New World to Deadside, Valheim, Conan exiles, Day Z and a few others. Most of them lasted a week before being relegated to the 'also played' bin...Icarus has had them playing and talking about it since it was released. Like I mentioned...certainly unusual 🤷‍♂️

A very Derek take. But yeah, the confirmation that they paid out millions for the Cryengine license was a fun reveal. Further suggestion that things didn’t go all their way in the court settlement.

The funniest thing was their given reason though: To ensure its use for future games. And the guys on the sub going 'Oh that makes sense'.

Oh sure, CIG can’t get near launch state for SC or SQ42 (or ToW, or Sataball, or what have you). But it makes total sense that 2020 was the year to outlay millions on their next games.

Total sense.
Indeed, millions of backers money, to boot, explicitly earmarked for other games, not SC or SQ42.

Just wondered that. Say I establish a car company and take "pledges" to develope and deliver best car ever. And give every "pledger" a moped scooter. Wouldn't those obligations (to develop and actually deliver those cars) be seen as responsibilities, essentially debt on company's accounts. Or can I walk out free as I all ready had delivered "vehicles" for my "backers"?
No, the kickstarter stuff doesnt. Only sales result in obligations. Donations dont.

You can eat and drink in SC? I wish I could last long enough to do that. You can get food at cafeteria? Examine? Eat?

Yes. Expect a dedicated video from Drew on it soon ;)

Although apparently the whole hunger/thirst mechanic (and other 'Actor Status' states like meds etc) are fairly broken in 3.16. But nobody really cares. Those are last year’s features ;)

I’m up for some Deep Rock Galactic when the VR mod drops ;)

That's because they've not been working on them since 2015/2016. The Stanton system got finished last year, no use starting work on another system when you don't even have the first one finished. They first snippets of work on Pyro were seen at the 2019 citcon. Those 2015/2016 videos were a series of lore videos meant to outline the background lore behind those systems.

There is. There will be the main station Ruin Station, and settlements akin to those found in ED Odyssey will be spotted around the planets, raidable and such.
