Now is the time that we can work as a real community and support the company.
They have many flaws as any company; but they make a game that is like no other.

They've made quastionable decisions in Odyssey (in special releasing on that stage) but remember the challenges of development In a pandemic situation, close by the FY end.

Right now, it's important to show results, execution and planing for the company's H2 (which ends in May 31st).

If you enjoy Elite and wants to help, support Frontier buying their products.

Short term financial results can help a LOT!
The execution and planing (for the next fy) it's a task that (I'm sure) Frontier will deliver.

I know, some might say "I've already bought Odyssey, and now it's Frontier fault, they need to figure out". This is not the best path if you want to see a beat future for Elite.

Let's make our part, help now and demand later.

Cheers and o7!

Given their turnover and previous results that's peanuts. The doomsayers have been invalidated. And Odyssey is better than ever. Message ends.
I love odyssey, its really good and it's getting even better (Execution).
But text it's about other things.
For the investors the scenario is not good.

So, you can help bringing more player to Odyssey that is great! :)

Cheers

The report cites the poor year Elite had because of Odyssey's rough launch (hmm...I guess those launch day "connectivity issues" were more serious than originally believed). Hopefully, this will be a wake-up call to Frontier that you can't use and abuse your fanbase with deceitful launches (a lesson EA/DICE is now learning as well). I want Frontier to succeed because I want Elite to succeed, but being dishonest about your products is not the way. The fact that such short-sighted strategizing passes muster in so many board rooms makes you wonder what is being taught in business schools these days.

They know... Believe me, they know.

I have heard this for years now and I have financially supported Frontier historically by both buying ARX, buying Elite for friends, and spending on alt accounts. My patience has run out with Odyssey. There is a saying in poker: It is not advisable to throw bad money after good money. If this means Elite has to die then so be it, FDev have not delivered when I supported them and patience has run out. I do not enjoy what Elite has become. If they do figure it out, great, I may come back and spend more money. If not - there are other games that deserve the attention of my wallet better.

I doubt Elite had a lot do with this. I would say the failure to launch Odyssey on consoles is a bigger red flag, but again, that's probably a symptom and not the root cause.

They probably just stretched themselves too thin doing too much at once. Sometimes it's just that simple.

I do understand brother, and believe me, I've been there.
Now I'm trying to 'move forward' and see what I can do to help and support.
I'm sure that they learned with the disastrous release of odyssey.
What can I say? I'm a believer.

cheers

The article shows some perspective. The low sales of Jurassic World 2 was a key point.

Money can buy the building, the equipment, and get contracts signed. But money can't buy talent. With only a finite amount of quality game developers, Frontier needed to pick something for them to focus on. If they picked Elite then they'd be even worse off because Elite is a pretty saturated product. JW2 seemed like a safe bet but turned out to be a bad one - dinosaurs aren't that cool anymore (the game itself was fine).

So yea I still think they stretched too thin but you're right to point out that they invested in the wrong thing. Tough but it happens.

Believe me... helps a lot :)
I know. It helps, but it only goes so far. You need throw exponentially more money at someone at higher salaries for them to take it. You also need to be confident that they'll deliver which doesn't go hand in hand with talent or high salaries.

Public companies tend to dangle their stock as compensation a little too much as well. It works for companies like Apple where you'll get 250k/yr USD base + RSUs worth 200k/yr (making you a millionaire in ~5 years) but their margins are insane. On the other hand if your company is perceived as cutting edge and fun to work for then people tend to forego the cushy salary/bonus/stock compensation a bit.

From what I heard about Frontier they're old fashioned and they're cheapskates.

1 - Agree.
2 - "From what I heard about Frontier they're old fashioned and they're cheapskates." --> That's a yellow flag! :/

Admirable post, OP. I'd love to spend something on ED. But IDK on what. I liked a suggestion someone posted a couple of months ago: buy in-game quests/ missions/ exploration or trading stories with specific rewards. Which can hugely add to the game IMO.
Or perhaps some premium vehicles/ suits/ weapons a.s.o.
I find it also admirable FDEV didn't go the lootbox route. But some micro transaction I would object to. With all balance considerations in place OC.
