Option to turn off out of ship sound

Really just a tick to remove all sounds that are not on or in the ship.

I understand why the devs keep the sound, but I feel like taken away from immersion by hearing all the sounds out there. Feels like potential unfulfilled.

Sure would be good if bleep sounds would give you information, such as when a locked on ship is destroyed, you see it, and the targeting/scanning computer makes a sound that indicates and confirms destruction, different sounds for different things, but I wouldn't expect that.

That's not a bad idea at all; perhaps an 'in between' option as well, so it sounds something like the in-cockpit sounds in the BSG remake where sounds in very close proximity were muffled or experienced vibration type sounds.

The sounds you get are generated by your ship to provide the impression of the sound that surrounding stuff would make (assuming you had an atmosphere). Don't quote me, but dredging my memory, this question has come up before and the response was that you'd be able to tailor the amount of audible input that your ship provides - in the release version.

I'd guess it's just not a priority right now :)

Really want this option too.

The sound design in this game is amazing, and really helps with situational awareness, but I think it would be nice to play with it off sometimes. It would be great to have a large list of options for what to play, broken down to something like

Weapon Hits : Realistic / Digitised / Off

Where realistic is what we hear now, stuff pinging off the enemy hull, digitised is just a noise to indicate that it happened, as in some FPS games/mods, and off is just silent.

I'd settle for off at first though!

I do hope they provide the option to tweak the sounds. I agree they are great, but it also takes something away from the space experience/immersion. I also understand that the sounds are computer generated, but I really want to feel really isolated in space.

Options that I'd like to see:

- In cockpit sounds remain.
- Out of cockpit sounds that traverse through the ship hull are more silent and muffled (sound filter may be applied to achieve this). These would be impact sounds, engine and weapons fired, etc.
- Out of cockpit sounds that are in space are not heard, but the computer can produce notification sounds of some sort.

I do this if I cruise with some psy trance in the background, or rather the psy trance is so loud that it covers them, but no, I wouldn't like to have all sounds go.

psy trance eh.. good taste. I can imagine that works very well :)

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking for though.. there are quite a lot of sound options already. Do you mean stuff like ships exploding, rocks breaking off asteroids and the sound of suns rumbling and the like? If so I get what you mean but far more people would complain if you couldn't hear those things happen. A sound option wouldn't do any harm though, so I am kind of with you (if I'm understanding you right). Tell you what though, when your canopy blows out and you can't hear a thing... that more than makes up for this particular shortcoming :D

Yes you understand me right. ;)

Speaking of less sound, therefore there should not be complete silence inside the ship, also. You should always hear a calm humming of the engine even if being still and occasionally you'd hear very fine (non intrusive) computer beeping and blinking sounds that indicate that the machine is operating and calculating stuff, etc. The ship is a high-tech device that is at operation, thus you'd hear those sounds.

Also regarding the ship sounds that are outside. As said it would be very important to have them really muffled and more silent, for the immersion, because to hear them clearly (the gun fire and the engines) you'd obviously need to hear them, but in the case of no sounds in space you'd only hear the vibrations these devices produce, since they are connected to the ship. This is very important, because without this small detail the whole immersion that is supposed to be achieved here would diminish significantly.

Berry gut idea, I like it and I'd certanly use it if I'd had the chance! Good for immersion.

Immersion breaking?

I think you are referring to the hyper X digital sound emulator receiver simulator 3000, it picks up digital signals from nearby objects and translates and converts it into sounds we can relate too and understand.

It was invented in 2238 by a welsh guy, Thomas Jones after witnessing his wife almost go mad after spending a fortnight on a long work trip in the silence of space with the only real sounds coming from the dog. Not sure why she took the dog.

It became very popular and soon after was fitted to almost everything. It made him a very rich guy, so he left his wife and shacked up with a newer model, moved to Aulin and nobody ever heard from him again.

I have to say though, My history isnt great, so I'm not entirely sure about how accurate this is or the exact details but it was something like that.
