Gaming PC

Looking for a gaming pc to buy to play elite. Im old as dirt and know nothing about PCs. Just looking to buy one out of the box to play Elite. I lnow its cheaper to piecemeal one together but im not knowledgeable enough to do it. Nor do i care to. I have almost 90 weeks ingame time on PS...camt wait around for fdev to make up their minds about console. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

For Horizons or Odyssey?
Currency used and rough idea on how much you're willing to spend would help a lot.

That might be doable, as you have a screen (the TV you use for PS) already and probably won't be expecting 60 FPS everywhere all the time.

I think the most important part for Elite Dangerous might be a good medium class graphics card. Do not mess around with cpu integrated graphics. You don't need a 3000 series of Nvidia. Get a 1070 ti or a 2070 super or something. :)

For Horizons, there's no problem.
For much of Odyssey, it should be quite easy.
But on planets & in stations, especially the on foot stuff, will be tricky. How bad/well a particular PC will perform is pretty much a roll of the dice currently (of course, throwing obscene computational resources will help, but Odyssey is still incomprehensibly weakly optimised).

Out of the box solutions usually skimp on the Graphics Card, even more expensive solutions.
You might pick one at around $1000 range and see if you could get the GFX upgraded in that for a couple hundred.

What I recommend for Odyssey:

Now someone who really knows about current PCs is needed, I'm just a moderate enthusiast. :)

Anyway, I did a quick peek at NewEgg (some techie guys recommended the site a long time ago), a couple possibilities in the budget (don't know if they'd be willing to swap GPUs):

new PC (worse GPU, not sure about CPU)

refurbished one (if I had to pick one of these two, I'd probably get this, much better GPU)

Maybe you should wait for a console announcement... because migrating your account to PC is not straight forward. Frontier would just get your "total assets" value, delete your account on PS and create another one on PC with that "value" into credits on the new account. You'll loose all progress, all unlocks, mats... in sum, all the grind!

It's fun to start all over. A big driving factor of gameplay is progression and something to look forward to.

Not gonna cut if for native 4k gaming.. At minimum I recommend a 3070 or 6800xt.

OP you're gonna have to fork out more than 1300$ if you want to game in 4k ;)

I was just gonna start anew.

Because of scalpers & crypto mining, ridiculous amount on the GPU alone.
I'd reckon $500-1000 or more, just to get upper mid-tier / lower high end GPU, keeping rest of the PC same.
Geez. Forget about it then if its that much. Ridiculous.
