Who would do that for anything less than billions of credits? The person building the ship would have to deal with the mats/data grind. How many hours worth of mats/data gathering would it take someone to fully engineer an FDL, how about one of the big 4? Anyone doing this for someone not their buddy is going to want reimbursement for those hours.
I looked up the estimated mat/data costs for my cutter on inara. I then figured out how much time it was likely to take me to earn those mats/data. Then I added up the power play time and credit costs for the prizmo shields, then added up module costs. I came to the conclusion that I would charge need to charge 10B or more for that Cutter. Same would go for a T10, Annie, or Vette. A meta PvP FDL would not be all that much cheaper.
The time you spent earning the nearly worthless credits could have easily been spent gathering mats/data and doing it yourself instead.
Yes you're absolutely right, again just an idea shot from the hip.
Still soon (AFAIK) you'll be able to trade mats (for legs) in EDO, and even FDev was asking about rebalancing the space mats grind. How about letting us trade mats in space too? I could get to like driving the buggy shooting crystal shards.. Harvesting mats combined with combat is also fun. The ones I'm not sure how to harvest are the encoded..
What about an Engineer career for commanders, where you can create your own blueprints balancing heat, power use, weight, effect, etc. After all quite a few of us enjoy doing this.
But again it's a tangent to this thread (my fault), it was just to address the power creep.. It seems like FDev has realized this, thus you can find g3 suits and weapons for sale in EDO. Maybe the same could be done for space..
