Exterminate mission - unable to complete

Hello all!

Just picked up a mission where you need to exterminate faction members. I have located the settlement, went there and...it's empty. Power off, no people, no loot. Nothing.
Tried to log out and in, go to supercruise, travel to another system. Nothing works unfortunately.
Any way to revive the settlement? Mission will fail after 7 hours so I'm curious how much time should pass till I can check it again?

Thanks!

You can reset the settlement by going in supercruise. However, it's likely to be bugged. I had the same issue on the system I was, lots of exterminate targeting the same faction. They only had one base, and only "factionless" scavs, no matter what.

Yep, I don't think it's a "Bug" I just think it's an oversight. Like, all these mechanics are working as intended, but the intended outcome is that the only available settlement the faction controls is abandoned because of faction state.

It really sucks though. I ignore those missions unless it has materials too tempting to pass up. And in those cases, I verify the target settlement to make sure it's not in one of the potential abandoned states (Infrastructure failure and Outbreak I think)

Thanks guys! Supercruise is not working. Good suggestions on checking the faction status. I guess I have to drop the mission. It was for the power regulator:)

I've just tried to complete an extermination mission of Diamond Frogs in LHS 3439.
"Kill 21 Diamond Frog members" only 20 NPC's are present plus 2 Skimmers (skimmers don't go towards head count).
So I thought, ok I'll leave and come back and kill one more, no big issue.
Noooope! it resets the head count, and guess what, still only 20 NPC's!
So other words you can't complete this mission, time wasted.

same here I am sat an empty settlement and I expect a fine for non completion

I've had those empty base ones occasionally as well, I don't think there's much you can do about those unless the faction state changes in the 7 hours.

The ones where you have to kill 21 and there's less than that in the settlement I just use the jump to supper cruise and back again then clear the base again, this should get you the mission completion and more matts :)

I just want to add that in my case the faction I needed to eliminate was the system’s pirate faction, so I tried to see if hitting the HasREZ would count towards the goal. It didn’t.

Pro tip: if you're just a couple short, set the alarm off on purpose and kill the reinforcements.

It would be great if you could do that. Kill X members of Faction by any means. Problem is that we have two types of missions, Horizons and Odyssey missions and they are mutually exclusive, so I wonder which mission board these types of missions would go in. It could be like crossing the beams in Ghost Busters if they were in both. :) I'm not enjoying this duality that Odyssey brought.

Relating to the original topic, I don't do these sorts of missions any longer as more often than not there was only one faction settlement available and it was offline.

I just stack them with other missions to settlements belonging to the same faction. If I see a mission to go kick a faction's backside at a given settlement, I check if there are any missions to kick their backsides in general.
