Do I need to enlist at Frontline to redeem combat bonds for ground CZs?

Only if your new. if not new you just fly to the same location on planet, land get out of your ship. Bunny hop over and enter CZ. pick a side on screen and then kill… then battle ends.
Then get back in ship fly ship to space station access ship systems sign up to CG on mission board. Then select contacts and hand in bonds..

I signed up and then redeemed almost 7M in combat bonds at Freedom's Foundation, as per instructions, and never got credit. Checked description of CZ while in game and it says to redeem combat bonds at Davies High in Reorte instead. May I suggest this change for next CG:

"To be eligible for rewards you must sign up as an active participant at {STATION NAME} in the {SYSTEM NAME} before handing in Combat Bonds at {STATION NAME} in {SYSTEM NAME}"

Why would we even need to Sign Up for the CG at a specific station anyway? In the past we could sign up at any station. Anyway, too late for me to make up for lost bonds now. I gave up.

Ooops, looks like a remnant of a previous CG slipped in there. Should have said Davies High in the Reorte system. I can only apologise for the error. Now edited - though the in-game text would show the correct location.

You can still sign up at any station. Handing in to a station in a completely different system would not normally happen.

Top 50% in both, lots of cash for another ship (maybe a liner). Nice distraction from unlocking some of these early engineers. No idea what the back story is to any of this as i'm new to the game so fought for both sides. Is there a link anyone can recommend to a catch up on what's what.

Unfortunately no - this story arc started back in September 2020 and it's quite convoluted involving terrorism, thargoids, engineers, internal frictions inside each superpower (this one was about the Alliance).
In hindsight - it was a marvelous story - and actually you could read up Galnet archives starting from that period (10 September) - they will certainly make an interesting reading for the inquiring mind
