To Solo Play Players: If You Could Disable PVP, Would You Play in Open Play Mode Instead?

Friend I play open permanently.
And I've had many scrapes.
But all my ships are engineered to either withstand or take the fight to em.
Compromise cargo space for hull reinforcements and big shields with boosters and cell banks if possible.
Can regen shields quicker than hull.
Being in open only teaches you how to play with that constant threat in mind.

And if you like that experience then that's great! I'm not saying you shouldn't have that. What you need to understand is not everyone likes that game experience, and thus not everyone should be forced to play that way when they enter the open world. By all means, you like what you like and that's awesome. But don't expect others to also like what you like, because that's just not reality.

Wait... how l play?
I have 3 haulers. I work my home system expanding and combat zones so on so forth. I haul gold or slaves smuggling em using a custom cool running krait ll.
I have the fdl for combat alongside 2 corvettes and a fas.
I do not just fight. On the contrary. I wreak havoc where its needed. Ask the winged hussars?
And all in open which trust me, once you get it, is a buzz

I've done a fair bit of all of these things (though not much Python as I hate the flight model) in Open, without worry. Unless you're selling data to an exploration CG, Engineer, or to skew a heated BGS conflict, no one is likely to attempt to stop you, even if anyone is around.

Not very representative of what Open actually consists of either.

If you aren't going out of your way to find trouble, encounters are infrequent and the overwhelming majority of them will be benign. Occasionally you'll run into someone hostile, but if you've looked both ways before crossing the street you'll be fine. If you get caught with your pants down, don't appreciate being reminded to pay attention, and find the bad outweighs the good, then sticking to another mode is understandable. However, the expectation that every CMDR encounter will be hostile, or that every hostile encounter will require, or even benefit from, a warship is silly.

Thanks, but no thanks. I repeat, if you like that, that's great, good for you. But not everyone likes that. This is really not such a hard concept to grasp.

Not everyone likes to play in constant fear of ambush. Not everyone likes to gear every ship with consideration for brutal combat. Not everyone has the skills to survive most interdictions. Not everyone has enough credits or is willing to spend the credits on full combat corvettes. Not everyone has 100+ hours to spend on finding materials and leveling up engineers. Not everyone enjoys the things you enjoy. Is this idea so hard to understand?

Don't know if it is just personal opinion, or does ship that I fly in open make it so, but to me Open seems nowadays over all safer than it was when I started playing this game. Apart from certain hotspots. But I'm quite rarely bothered even in Shinrarta....

I too prefer the krait to the python for medium hauling. Yes it's not as big a capacity, but it's well able to evade or fight much more so than the python.

I never said that open is ALWAYS like that, but the risks are high enough to outweigh the benefits for many of us. Sure you might only get ganked 1% of the time, but that 1% can cost 50% of your total profits, as well as make for a very bad gaming experience. The expectation is not that every CMDR is hostile, but that every CMDR could be hostile. Not all of us enjoy that feeling.

Also you're assuming every player has the skill to survive an encounter, but that is just absolutely not the case. Most players are not part of the top 10%, thus most players will not survive most of the time, and at least half of the players would lose more than they win. It's not rocket science, just simple math.

Yeah, I appreciate your enthusiasm. I try doing the same. But, mate, that's not easy doing nor is it fast to achieve. Your build need G5 access to Palin. You know what's necessary for that, yes?

I've travelled to colonia and back in a dbx twice. And with my carrier many times.
I've also tagged about 5k + systems in my travels across the galaxy.
Palins 5k is easily done.

I'm currently doing Robigo trips as my main source of income. Although I'm trying other types of activities, for fun as well as for cash. Currently my mining trips haven't been as profitable as I had hoped, I suspect I just haven't figured out the trick yet. Say, do you happen to know good ways of finding LT Diamond subsurface locations? All the places I've visited so far have been... disappointing
