Finding Coordinates on Planet Surface

I've seen threads where people post planet surface coordinates.

I know we have a heading indicator, but is there a way to punch in the coordinates and have that point appear in our navigation? Or, at least, be targeted so we can land there as if it were a settlement, crash site, etc.?

No. It's been asked for, and I wouldn't be against players having 1 way point marker that can be used and vanishes once you leave the system/planet. There are a couple of player utilities that provide a lot of help with traveling to planetary coordinates, this one for instance, but not as part of the game;

There are still a few ingame skills that have no easy way to learn. i still like these.

  • Planetary Navigation with coordinates
  • SRV speeding on rough surfaces
  • SRV material scanner
  • (Docking :D )
More don't come to mind... Are there more? there should be more.

To give the same answer as others, no..
Nor can you, once at a location, set a bookmark for it - so finding your way back to a given spot will be just as much faff the second time around.
Again, as said, doing something about this to has been requested for a long time.

One more thing to add to my list of unnecessarily annoying anti-player and game universe unrealistic things FD seem to insist upon or, at least, don't seem to have enough time to bother addressing. I find a deep breath and not worrying about it best in these situations, followed by long breaks from the game when that isn't working any more.

I've always found this diagram really useful in this regard ..

As others have said there's no in-game facility to do it the easy way but I agree with wenkman that learning how to follow the compass bearing down to a set of surface coordinates is a good skill to master.

This is it for me. I know it's a personal thing, but I find it easy to picture roughly where both me and my target are on the diagram and fly a near-enough bearing between them, refining it as I get close.

Not sure I find it easy to navigate to lay long even now, but it is satisfying when you get it right :)

Kids these days can't find anything without their phones :sneaky:

Trading with in-game tools only apparently...
(Yammicks still hasn't learnt this one after 7 years)

I geeked out and bought myself a leather Pilot's kneeboard so I could have this and other useful diagrams at hand

That's a really handy diagram... I'll use that as a reference. Thanks!

Okay, so here's the problem I have with the SRV material scanner...

My last three vehicles have all been Ford F-150s. Each one came with an owner's manual with excruciating detail about every single little thing in the truck. The SRV comes with no explanation at all regarding that scanner. It's amazing how little documentation comes with these high-tech toys we have.
