What could be done to make me use engineering

So if you dislike mining, you are now essentially blocked out from doing engineering at Selene Jean? instead of today, where you have a choice of multiple activities to choose from and pick the most fun of them to gather the required materials.
[...]
Why would Selene Jean's missions be mining-themed, when what she offers is armor?

If you are a dev, yes, if not, no. Thanks for the offer, though.
It doesn’t take a supermarket manager to pick something from a shelf for someone else that can’t reach it. Just like it won’t take a developer to help you with your problem. Plenty of help in this thread already, and elsewhere on the forum. And elsewhere online!

Folks, move on. This guy of only interested in participation trophies. The content creators he refers to only rebelled against the material grind when Frontier added a material and engineer grind to suit and weapon modification. That was just a bit much, relying on the exact same mechanic for something completely different. Add into the fact that it’s a station bar tender that swaps material out for you, and it just became stupid. And yes, everyone agrees it’s stupid which is why you can buy upgraded suits and weapons out of the gate for a higher price.

so YES, there are issues with the effort required to be better than average. But turning it into a participation trophy which is what the OP wants, is just stupid. ED should never be for the lazy. Something given has no value.

If you insist on misrepresenting "my" problem, then you will not learn what kind of problem it is.

Oh, and look at that feedback thread. It is not "just my problem".

I know you guys feel threatened because FDev changing things makes you feel fear and uncertainty. Hush, whatever they do with my feedback, it won't hurt. Well, at least not more than engineering, and you are mighty men who can handle THAT boredom. ;)

You know you might have saved yourself a lot of heartache had you posted your suggestion then asked the mods to lock the thread.
I don't feel any heartache. I was just wondering why some people here feel so threatened that they resort to all kinds of silly manipulative tricks to somehow belittle a sentiment that apparently vast parts of the community share.

But I guess I have figured that out now: Some people are just always afraid of change, even of the mere talk of change.

Perhaps some of that vast community could post in support of your suggestions.

You sure as hell won't be getting any acknowledgement from Fdev.

It certainly won't, you are correct.

There is a dedicated thread for engineering feedback which they will read in its entirety as there are many suggestions within.

I'm not saying they won't look at this, but they have good feedback, as requested, elsewhere.

Yep, among that mine in the meantime. Where I have concluded from all the people here showing their fear that something might change 😲 that we would need a solution that keeps the old system these people love so much as to become insulting and manipulative in its defense in place, while offering others a way out of the mess.

But that will of course meet also some disagreement. Maybe it is true that there are two kinds of people in this world: Those who suffer for others so that the others don't have to, and those who want others to suffer just as much as they did, or more

Oh just wow, this pretty mich summarize your line of replies.

Why would they? They have all posted in that thread, as I have. They have made Youtube videos (and lots of them, which I am not going to do). They have said it in chats throughout the games numerous times. They have left the game to signal their disapproval.
At some point, most people will give up and leave the game to the few who are somehow thinking that enduring such things in a game makes them more worthy, and not just train them well at being shop clerks.

Whatever. Your response is derogatory to all who comment, unsurprising, I suppose.

I am sorry, it was not my intention to hurt your feelings. Your fear is real and should be acknowledged.

Patronising much?

Did they leave because of engineering?

The alienation that I feel whenever I see the barter economy standing in the way is just too large.

What could be done to make me use engineering?

Feel free to add your own perspectives.
Firstly, nobody here really cares more about your "problem" than about anyone elses' problems. Specifically, what might make you use engineering may be different from what others, including the target audience of the game, enjoy using it for.

I agree that the bartender thing is annoying. There is a good idea in there, although what the bartender fences versus what other fences, well, fence, should be different. The bartender should be an information source.

Also, shouldn't there be some level of trust involved before strangers approach you with illicit suggestions (beyond a specific subset)? Then again, we have a nice button in the docking menu labelled Black Market, so maybe not? It is what it is - there would be all sorts of whinging going on if we were "forced" to walk down a dark corridor and rap a code on a maintenance door to access black markets and such. People (like you?) want everything to fall into their laps with the least possible amount of effort.

Lastly, you are posting in a forum (a place for debate) and in an open suggestion thread. Your input would have been much more targeted at the devs during the "alpha".

Take the suggestions people have already presented you and try them out. Your issues are not really issues for the devs. You are half a year and ten patches too late for that. Adapt instead, that's one of the marvels of the human condition, that we can adapt to the circumstances facing us.

I can only apologize again if my reply to your insistance that I was somehow too dumb to do engineering (and not, as I have explained multiple times, just appaled and bored by it) did hurt your feelings.
That is curious, these are the 4 previous posts I have made here.

Go take up residence in Watt Port in Enayex.
There is a player group who organise PvP between unengineered sideys (or were, just in case it has died) on Wednesdays, I believe.
With 'matched' unengineered ships, it is surprising how long it can take to 'win'...

So accusing me of calling you too dumb to do engineering is actually a personal attack against me, which I have now reported.

Thank you.
