Add Opinion Polls, Settlement Defense Plans, and Others to Mission Reward

These data items show up so randomly that it seems like we are supposed to find them while playing the game instead of trying to look for them under special circumstance.

if that is the case, then include them as mission rewards to motivate players to use the NPCs and mission board more.

I have come across multiple NPC that only have 2 rewards available for completing the mission. This is either a bug or there is a lack of material rewards to fill up these slots.

Agree. After hundreds of hours doing on-foot missions, I have a total of 4 SDP’s. I should only have 2 because I only found 2 by myself, but a friend was nice enough to find 2 on a data port and let me grab them. This is ridiculous.

SDP just need fixing. Crazy that they haven't after 6 months.

The other unlocks are easy enough to find, if people would actually look.
Have you been under a rock on the forums? There are multiple threads on trying to find Opinion Polls alone. There is no guaranteed way of finding several of them like you claim. If there was, then Frontier wouldn't have reduced the amount from 40 to 10 if they were that easy. It's purely based on luck at the moment for a lot of these:

Settlement Defense plan show up under CMD Center Data ports, but they are still random and rare for most commanders.
Opinion Polls show up more often in HAB data ports, but they are still random and rare for most commanders.

What so important from mission reward that you need that isn't material? I posted a screenshot, showing there is a third slot not offering a different reward compared to the others. The mission board should always offer materials, credits, or reputation/Influence. I don't get why it bothers you to have more materials offered when you can just take the credit or reputation if you don't need it.

Nah, just make them a bit easier to find. Especially SDPs.

You see, if they get added as mission rewards, that reduces the chances of other things you need appearing as mission rewards. And trust me, once you've unlocked the engineers, and you no longer need those things, then you'll see opinion polls everywhere, and seeing them on the mission board will just annoy you.

I find opinion polls all the time, its just about going to areas they are likely to spawn. that information is pretty easy to find.

I agree I don't want to see the mission reward pools diluted by 1 time need items

Please prove to all of us who have been complaining about this issue, how easy they are to find by uploading a current video. I'm talking about you jumping to the system, going to the settlement, and finding one without any editing of it all.

"I don't want to see the mission rewards pools diluted by 1 time need items."

Are you folks high? I posted a screenshot showing that sometimes we don't even get any material offers at all. How is this better than getting material you only use once?

I have spent the last two days on and off running around to tourist anarchy settlements as seems to be the most up to date info, I've found a single ing oppinion poll. I don't know how many hours I have in oddyssy at this point, but I believe I've sold 4 in total at this point.

Please let me know where I find these if you got a better idea.

These people probably got them when they were easier to find (40 required but consistent), or got them off trading. I highly doubt they got them all within 3-5 days.

My best luck was finding 5 in 2 weeks at a Federal Mining Settlement with a system state of Expansion. Good Luck.

I have given up on trying to get Opinion Polls. Taken three weeks just to get six.

Seriously it's absurd how hard these things are too find.

I've been learning that it's much better time wise just to grab missions for upgrade specific material rewards. With the help of https://github.com/jixxed/ed-odyssey-materials-helper I'm able to track stuff, so it's been helping be less lost in the process.

But ya, yet to find a single mission that's giving opinion polls.

It would be nice if there was a simulated CZ type arena, where you could try out different gun and suit modifications before committing to upgrading. That would at least give me a nice preview of what exactly I'm doing all this grinding for.

In light of this post and reply from Zac:
Hi Zac, it is not just the low spawn rates but their non pressence as rewards in missions. Unless that was intended of course.

I believe that is intentional yes, as after you have completed the Engineer unlock they become almost meaningless mission rewards.
It makes me wonder if CMDRs who think they're not that hard to find are ones that completed the unlock some time ago and are now seeing a significantly higher, non-representative spawn rate? 🤷‍♂️

Without even touching on the fact that the underlying game design is to drop more garbage-tier data that you don't need and make it hard to find the stuff you do...wow...

Nah, it's just the universe working when you don't need something and suddenly you see it everywhere. It's a sign of a benevolent deity.

My first experience of grind was Guild Wars. When I was 12 playing Elite I had all the time in the world for that and never once thought of it as grind. Now I have bills to pay, kids to raise and so little time available compared to disposable income I can afford to "Pay to win" and not feel the least bit bad about it.

Vote for me. I would implement a National Minimum Wage in gaming... somehow. Grind is just working for less than Minimum Wage. It's exploitative. In online gaming you pay for the product and yet you ARE the product. The company is using you as content, but not paying you. In fact they take from you. They take your money then thay take your time.

One day, you just wake up with self respect and a burning sense that you're not actually going to live forever, and you never grind again. But games companies can't think inside the box any more. Take my money, not my time. It's not difficult.

I support that. They could be specifically added to missions given by settlement mission givers to breing some value to them. But need to give lige 5 polls or other rare stuff per mission every time.

So I get the sentiment. And I think grinding as a way to boost sale of skins, content, whatever.

That's absolutely trash.

But there is value to be had in a sense of progression, imagine if you were just given infinite money in the game from the start. I mean why even trade or anything, you already have all the money.

I just think that progression is blocked by a few things, it doesn't make sense to me why having opinion polls be a locked thing preventing a bunch of modifications. There is another engineer where you just need to do 6 sneaky theft missions, that one actually makes sense within the game. It isn't hard, you can knock it out in a day or two of playing. And theres no RNG jesus being introduced just so you can START grinding other materials for the actual modifcations. It's like, why is there such a barrier to entry before you can even grind for items.

So theres like a balance in there.

Yeah the 6+6 sneak missions was at least interesting and forced me into doing something I would not have otherwise done... curiously that got me the Genetic Repair Meds that I'd already waited an age for... had I done some Heists I would have been gone to some of the places where Genetic Repair Meds drop... but I didn't like the idea of standing around while that machine opened so I avoided it. That was probably a mistake, I would have got GRM much sooner had I done maybe just 2 heists. Especially where it sent me heisting where the local authority was anarchy... huh... "heist" you say... "Slaughter them all" I call it.

Regardless, some things I will never have... the currency demanded wasn't money... it was blind fanatical devotion to approved repetitions and in that currency I am a very very poor underprivileged individual. Sadly the time-poor will never be seen as victims.

Grinding and making money through gameplay are different things. Doing diverse missions, mining, combat and trading are gameplay loops expected for an online game with little or no story driven content. however constantly relogging in the same place to search the same building for a specific material because it is not obtainable through gameplay is horrible and should not exist in any game (except Asian MMOs).
