Bad Suggestion for the Month: Ads to Expedite Supercruise

It's amazing how many ads I watch in various mobile games to 'hurry up' something, such as crafting or travel time...

Elite needs that! I mean, I'd watch a couple 30-second ads if it would shave 5 minutes off supercruise times!

Might even make for hilarious content. Lining up an interdictor and then BAM!, Holy Cow! That Type-9 just went plaid!

Thanks for supporting my suggestion!

(They could be ads for other Frontier games?)

You're right.

That IS a bad suggestion.

Thank you!

On a (sort-of) serious note, I tend to do a bad suggestion (titled of course) every so often for a couple of reasons:

1) Most bad suggestions (intentional or not, and we get a lot of the latter) are trying to solve the symptom of a root problem in Elite. Bad suggestions help other players (and the devs, sometimes) identify these symptoms and ask, "What is the actual problem?"

2) They're fun! And sometimes they end up not being bad at all. (This one totally is.) I got the idea from EVE Online some years ago when CCP devs did a similar exercise and, surprisingly, implemented several (with tweaks of course) that were a hit!

3) To have fun. Because we all know the real meta is engineering your forum game.

Thank you!

Expect a copyright strike from Demiser.

Hint: Open Youtube on a second monitor and go watch some lolcats. This helps making time fly by. And it's even more enjoyable than ads!

In general it is bad idea.

What would be nice in my opinion is to add some way to customize information on holographic displays (in front of station airlocks, at councourses and at settlements etc). Tied to some random events or faction/system states and including useful information, like best prices for commodities, hints for pre-upgraded weapons on sale etc. Maybe even some curated submission form for user managed content, e.g. squadrons or in-game events announcements etc.

Maybe even some ability to interact with these ads, to "copy" the information for later usage.

Thank you!

Love your approach!

An oft-cited suggestion (and one I support)! Especially for in-game information like you provided.

I also support that for squadrons and player groups...as it sort-of does now...but the tools to support these groups are so bare-bones, it's almost a mute point. Anyways...the reason I'm replying is:

That's not a bad suggestion - GO MAKE A THREAD FOR IT!

That's the suggestions life cycle!
  • Make a bad suggestion
  • People say it's bad
  • Somebody makes a good suggestion in a bad suggestion thread
  • Good suggestion thread ends up being made
  • FDev impleme...uh...er-hem.

Right.

That's the life cycle! =D
