Newcomer / Intro New player - looking for people to play with

Hey guys,

Brand new to this game, been testing things out on my own in VR, haven't gotten far at all, mostly just tutorials. Really fun so far. There seems to be a lot more to this game that will probably take me forever to figure out.

Honestly, would love someone to play with who can show me the ropes and help me out. I'm a casual player, have a family, job etc... I don't dedicate tons of time to this game, which can make it difficult to progress at all. Also, playing with other cool people is always more fun.

Anyway, if anyone is interested I would love to hear from you.

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong place.

Thanks,

Brett

Welcome to the Elite Galaxy commander!

No worries. You absolutely posted in the right place. Here is a link to a special forum for player groups. You can also use the in-game squadron search and application form. Its located on the right cockpit panel, first tab. And you can send a friend request to any commander you see flying around in-game or even if you just know their commander name using the search box in the "Social" option on the main menu.

Maybe you've already found most of the resources listed below. If not, have a look at them and in any case don't hesitate to ask questions here in the forum.

In-game help is available in the form of menu links to the Pilot's Handbook and the Codex (right-hand cockpit panel 1st tab).
For a very good beginner's guide see: An in-depth beginner’s guide to Elite: Dangerous.
Tutorials covering all aspects of the game, many of them in the form of YouTube videos, are available from ED Tutorials.
There is a wealth of useful information available in these forums spread out over hundreds of threads. Thanks to commander @Alec Turner you can access all of that information and more via a single thread: Alec's best of the forum (and elsewhere) [v2].
Here is a good guide on the background simulation (BGS) that simulates the economical and political changes caused by player actions in inhabited systems.
Also check out the inara.cz and eddb.io websites with (almost) realtime info on practically everything in the game.
The coriolis.io and edsy.org websites let you design your ships before buying them.
There are many more Tools and Websites created by fans that make life in the galaxy better.
And last but not least, the Elite Dangerous Wiki contains extensive information on nearly all aspects of the game.

Right, did not think about that. I live on the west coast in the U.S. usually play evenings/night. Occasionally during the day. I am on PC.
That rules out anybody in the UK helping you then. Your 18:00 would probably be our 02:00 am, though you were still not precise in what time zone you're in.

Has the galactic academy disappeared then? I don't see it listed at the top of this forum any more.

their discord (to find mentors):

EDIT - I see the banner is back (or maybe was just mucked up for me yesterday, sorry) - thanks @Ashnak for alerting me.

I recently started playing my second commander using what I learned going through unlocking engineers (involves achieving certain goals and/or bringing them rare items) and collecting materials to be able to get engineering modifications done. I've made significantly faster progress because when you know what to do you can perform activities that simultaneously achieve 2 or 3 goals at once. That might be making credits, acquiring materials or performing a game activity that an engineer requires of you before they will do business with you.
If you're short on time, these short cuts make a huge difference without spoiling the game play experience and you try a bit of everything in the process.
I might write up a guide if there was interest in it. Most new player guides focus on earning credits as fast as possible - get an Anaconda in 8 hours for example. My way would mean it takes a lot longer to get one of the big three ships like the Anaconda, but you'll be able to engineer it and your other ships to it's best performance when you do get it.
I wouldn't recommend rushing to a big ship anyway. Medium sized ships are faster, more agile, flexible and fun anyway.
