It being synonymous with 'client patch' removes any distinct meaning it might have.Ok, but that's not really what hotfix means in 2022.
If that 'industry standard' is actually now true then I'd be interested in learning how and when the usage shifted. That would be an originally unplanned fix to address a specific issue(s) deemed more urgent than waiting for the next regular patch - which is industry standard.

I submit that simply employing English with "urgent patch" would be better than abusing the 'hot' part of 'hotfix'.
So, with some ... urgency ... then ?...seriously?
For what it's worth - nowadays, the 'hot' part of hotfix refers to the fix being put together relatively quickly.
<tinfoilhat>I get pretty good overall performance in Odyssey, do not have SC installed, coincidence?</tinfoilhat>Star Citizen if installed?
(Oh, no need, it does that all by itself..)
Game downtime: seconds.
Programmer nerd players arguing about how the update is described : hours.
hmm I had come to think of it as a fix/patch that focused on things like instability, released between dates of planned updates for the purpose of resolving issues that simply were better to fix than wait for a planned patch. I suppose that fits with what your saying, as such non-planned fixes would inherently be put together in a hurried fashion to resolve previously unforeseen issues. For what it's worth - nowadays, the 'hot' part of hotfix refers to the fix being put together relatively quickly.

I once did the same, and was livid when it didn't reboot!I once installed a Windows hotfix update and was livid when it asked me to reboot...
Of course it's a joke, just like all our comments here are just a joke that Zac doesn't have to read through in search of any important problems with the ***fix. This is a joke right? Arguing with Zac and wasting his time over the definition of a 'hotfix'?
