Community Event / Creation The Buckyball Racing Club Presents: Back to Pareco (Magic 8-Ball Championship, Race 1)

First attempt complete, 7 landing should put me firmly at the bottom of the list. Before my next attempt I'll correctly assign the landing gear hotkey (first time in Horizons for a month or so) and watching your videos I'm definitely not trying hard enough! However tomorrow is another day, it's got to be better right?

Greetings, Racers! We have our first Leaderboards posted! Check up on the first page, second post. I'll make sure the latest leaderboard is posted there at all times. I'll also post Leaderboards chronologically as they are released (in line with the rest of the replies) so you can always look back through previous leaderboards.

Well I'm definitely trying harder, the repair bills prove that and the result is... a slight improvement.
I've managed to get to 9 stops, but only just short of 10 and there was that incident as I left Philips so hoping to reach double figures at least. The competent pilots at the top of the table have nothing to fear though!

I'm not sure which is more annoying...

That every single attempt tonight was just a few seconds past the 20 minute mark at Garden Ring...

Or that nearly every single attempt tonight always had me landing at pad #1 (i.e. the far side pad) at Garden Ring...

3 Attempts tonight. Not much worth taking from them except : 2 bumps in a raw without repairs got me a brand new regulation cobra.
Managed to fit a decent run but I have to check it before posting. It feels like my approaches are getting much better, my comptuer has a flourish of post-its all around it with landing pads, GCA WPN. I offer the follow order for the re-return : "AGA CAN PAWN"
I fell like I improved my SC time a bit. I don't feel like it's an improvement at all to get a better orientation but I haven't tested yet.

And we have an update of the Back to Pareco standings as we enter 3308.02.15. CMDR Alec Turner retains the top spot in the Regulation class, and CMDR Shaye Blackwood in that amazing racing Eagle, Hummingbird, continues to hold the lead in the Unlimited Class. CMDRs Sulu and Epaphus make strong showings, appearing in the top five ofthe Regulation class and rounding out the top three spots in Unlimited. CMDR Psykit's live stream showed her place on both boards as well. Who will make the next top tier run? Is there a CMDR out ther ewho can challenge the might of the current top racers? Find out as the Magic 8-Ball Championship continues with Day Four of Back to Pareco!

Gave it another go tonight. Best I managed was 13 in 20:26, but that did include an emergency fine payment at 1% hull, which cost me 12 sec, plus another 6 sec for fat fingering the launch button. Oh well.
Debating whether I should try again or give it a go in a not fully engineered iEagle. Maybe something silly like a Keelback.

I think I may have reached my limits in the regulation Cobra, several more attempts, all in the same ballpark, nothing better tho. Decided to switch to unlimited for a change of pace (and also, gotta get them championship points right?) ... crikey the Eagle is twitchy compared to the Cobra! First run aborted after 1 stop when I realised I hadn't memorised the route and was lost without my bobbleheads. 😆 Second run submitted ... it'll do for a first attempt. 😛

P.S. I did try a few extra things in regulation just to see if they made even a tiny bit of difference ... not conviced they did.

1) burned nearly all my fuel to make the Cobra lighter and therefore faster? (n)
2) got rid of the SRV (but not the mandatory vehicle bay) to make the Cobra lighter and therefore faster? (n)
3) turned flight assist off while boosting towards outposts to minimise speed drop-off? (n)
