That's some mighty fine tinfoil on display there.

I've also used Microsoft x-cloud a lot. And again as long as you can get a good ping, it's a really good experience

Yeah see this is the funny thing. Chris’s pursuit of dream cloud solutions has left SC with horrendous networking currently, I think we can all agree.

If you want to play a game beset by desync, via a system famous for introducing further latency, I would suggest that you haven’t actually stumbled on an ideal future scenario...

I would have 100 systems with character and gameplay and features

Well you would if they could ever get their tech to scale. Looking at 10 years and counting for the networking currently, with the game stuck on a single system while we wait. (And the starter solution mooted for Q4 2022 doesn’t actually scale beyond a few solar systems. Universe shards capped at 50 players have issues that way…)

A fun bit of recent player maths put the content delivery schedule for 100 solar systems themselves, once the underlying networking tech works, at around: another 10 years.

Happy exploring ;)

Fundamentally, SC is going to stay jump from point to point. Due to the downscaling of planets and the sublight speeds Ships travel at, you can manually zip around planets aswell. T

And I can zip around a beach ball, but that doesn't make it a simulation of a real planet or me a spaceship, but I can do the zoom zoom noises. We've heard all the "arguments" that the down scaled planets were downscaled because they didn't want to have ship traveling faster than light rubbish...but it is all rubbish, making full scale planets is actually much harder than it looks, and seriously hand crafting an entire planet, I don't care how good your tools are, you are either going to end up with endless identical tiled geology, or you aren't going to finish ever. You can't hand craft a planet, and that's not something you can deny! Even the tiny planets in SC have consumed so much time and effort they haven't ever finished another.

You see that's one thing that is a non-starter, if they actually had another working solar system you don't think they would have put it out there, showed footage of it, even put a station there and let people fly around it on a special server if they couldn't connect it to Stanton, it would be a big thing....something that would draw in heaps of attention and lots of money, maybe even from more corporate backers because it would be a sign of real progress. Let's not bandy about not wanting to spoil the surprise....that's rubbish and we all know it, it would be a really big thing for the game and it's future and its income stream!

Or....

Those 100 systems will take ages to explore, because there is actually stuff to explore.

You can fully explore about 90% of the systems in elite in about 15 minutes - if that. Everything and everywhere pretty much looks the same.

Sure Elite has more systems and on paper a bigger and better map, but the game doesn't make use of the distance or the number of systems.

And sure, I've seen some pretty stuff in elite. And it's a nice feeling that the prettiest view I've ever seen in elite no one else has seen ( end of nowhere, 20min from destination star)

But SC throws those pretty views around like they are smarties.
I would have 100 systems with character and gameplay and features than 4billion systems I will never visit, have stupid names, and all look the same
You seem to be confusing your personal and anecdotal perception of what the stellar forge produces with not having stuff to explore in Elite. There is actually tons of different elements of gameplay and content to explore. Elite is probably among best in class in the exploration department in particular. SC does not even have a complete stellar star system or exploration mechanics in yet though.

That's quite optimistic.

Also, they only count 96 systems. Strange.

Some strange assumptions as well. All the Vanduul systems won't be enterable? Where does he get that from? And from that he assumes they will still spend a month on them? Chris will pass up the chance to make a system full of alien assets? I don't think so!

I also don't think backer gave money for additional systems they can't actually enter.

Meanwhile, here in Russki land, snow is melting, in the middle of Feb, traditionally one of the coldest months usually with -5 to -25 degree temps. In my 18 years here i've never seen the snow melt in Feb. They are predicting mainly plus temperatures for the coming week. Crazy.
Down in lovely Perth, West Aus. We have had more than 10 days of 40°C+ this summer. One stretch was 6 days in a row. Summer's not over yet. 🥵 Climate change? What climate change?

Expect to need 64GB ram and a 12gb+ RTX GPU to play what gets released on high.

No you don't, i don't have that and my performance at 1440P is good.

that guy consistently has the worst ideas/opinons.

Yeah, do you remember Star Citizen had this sort of landing mini game? By the next patch it was gone and never spoken of again such was the hate for it.

No one wants MS Flight Simulator is space.

Serious question. What the frak is a "virtual NPC".

One of Tony’s many undelivered Quantum things. NPCs that exist in potential, living their virtual lives, reacting suitably to the local dynamic background sim (if that were a thing), sending out distress beacons and such. Then becoming a real non-virtual NPC on interaction.

Then becoming a living, growing character in the living universe from that point on. Like the SoM Nemesis system. Only better.

One day you will tell your NPC crew member tales of such things…

Love that music in Wally's bar :)

Me too, originally it had different acoustics, it was louder with a mild audio distortion effect, this was during testing, they toned it down for released, it was probably too loud but i liked it like that, it sounded more like it really should, it sounded like you could really feel it.

Also listen to all the changes in the audio as you're walking round, great attention to detail.

41 today here, going to be 41 tomorrow, of course I am 1200klms north of Perth so it gets hotter and stays hotter longer up here! Sometimes it rains, it's still hot, it steams as it hits the ground!

There certainly might be more per planet to explore, I mean they are handcrafting the planets, even hand crafting a 1/10 scale planet is going to take ages, and there aren't apparantly going to be a huge number of planets per system....but, I have seen projected numbers of players in the 100,000+ when it is released, do you really think a few hundred devs can hand craft enough content even across 110 planets that 100,000+ players won't discover it all in one day?
I think it's a mistake to use logic when a recipient's brain might already be broken.

In the 7 years I've been here, I've never once felt the urge to shove anyone on the ignore list...as much as there's been a few likely candidates, none of them have had my finger hovering over that mouse button quite as often. Sleut has perhaps come the closest... in the earlier years... but as ever, he always redeemed himself a couple of posts later making me hit that like button and feel guilty for thinking of it
This new person really seems a special one. Do you think their family realises, and is trying to help?
