Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Yes it does, you are required to buy SC aren't you? Exactly the same. The fact ED has two versions is irrelevant to that argument. Games have paid expansions, its a thing.

More importantly, SC has most of the content people have actually paid for locked behind the worrying combination of time and CRoberts.
Plus "you can earn it ingame, so no Pay to Win", is kind of like certain "free to play" games work. It is just that earning stuff in-game is made so brutally hard that it is not feasible.

to be clear for those that might not know, Coffee Stain make the game Satisfactory (which i think is a great game)

and this is the video we are talking about

I didn't know, but i guessed from context. However, its nice to see devs actually talk about what they won't add and why rather than letting the community dreamcraft themselves silly and then get dissapointed when the devs don't do something.

I wish FD would be more upfront like this as well. I mean, a definitive statement like "We will never ever make the game open only or require people to play in open to participate in certain game elements" might at least stop Hotel California threads dragging on and on and on.

No, not right now :D

One version has the kickstarter legs promise locked behind a paywall.

I mean, I bought the game when it was Alpha 3.8 or something? And I do believe I got what was in that Alpha. Thankfully, CIG provides free updates, so eventually, whenever that will be, it may include all of the kickstarter promises! NOT locked behind additional DLC!

Anybody who backed original kickstarter of ED over certain level got LEP, they get whatever is released without additional payments. Others like me just bought the game in usual way.

You've got the bare minimum invested. That tells me how much faith you have in it.
Seems that poster is all talk and no action.
In a strange coincidence the last three loudest backers have all admitted to doing this. Weird.
Not a strange coincidence at all. If one can't financially "fund" their phantasmal dream game directly, one can always attract more money indirectly by hyping it up and getting others to "fund" it. If one minimal backer can get two to pay into the Roberts Clan Coffers, and those each attract two more, and those four attract eight...

...why, before you know it, CIG will be raking in millions. Millions I say!

You're saying i'm a shill!

You're only a shill if you're getting paid by CIG to do it.

Most people who like a game will hype it up, and we do it the hope that others will buy the game, so that the game's development team will continue to work on it, adding expansions, DLC, bug fixes, updated versions of the game, similar games, and so on. If one can't support the game financially (either due to lack of money, or there's no PDLC to buy), one can do it by investing their time. I've done it on this forum for Empyrion Galactic Survival, Kerbal Space Program, Space Engineers, and Surviving Mars. Others have done it for X4, and No Man's Sky.

I'm also this 🤏 close to waxing lyrically about Half Life Alyx. I got it on a steam sale, and finally found the time to play it. :)

edit:

I also wasn't calling you a shill. I was comparing CIG to a multi-level marketing scheme. ;)

Well there have been various developers promising everything and the kitchen sink....usually end product is something horrendous. Certain Derek and Battlecruiser 3000 AD comes to my mind...

Right, the ability enter some random dudes 130m long ship, which has a fully fleshed out interior of exceptional detail and photo-realistic graphics quality, get into a physical turret and pew pew at everything around you independently from what the other 20 people are doing on said ship.

A couple of other games may technically do it, but not one comes even close to the Immersion that Star Citizen does it, that is the difference CR makes.

I think Star Citizen 2 will pump immersion directly into players' veins, no need for the game.

Well BC3000AD got released. As a buggy mess. Likewise its sequels.

Heh, finally suffered a crash to desktop with Horizons today while preparing for a surface scan.

So rare in Elite, almost forgot they existed. :D

man, into papa roberts for 10k and cant even spring the 40 bucks for Odyssey. poor braben, this has got to hurt his feelings!

although im getting about a client crash per day in odyssey.

No argument either apparently ;)

or......

i have better things to do with my free time.

not everyone is going dedicate their lives to tracking the status of elite refuge players who started playing star citizen.

or writing daily posts of hundreds of words cross referenced like a legal brief.

or meticulously documenting everything any developer from CIG has ever said over a period of 8 years
