Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Eventually. This has been precisely a bit of a flawed argument for a long time already when comparing with ED, or with many games with DLC for that matter. The problem with SC is that it has been 10 years already and that « eventually » of yours is still many years away. 100 systems, jumping, quanta, subsumption AI, farming, repair, exploration, alien races etc etc etc etc. And the pitiful bits that we are allowed to test in the mean time are still thoroughly broken after all that time.

Now, with Elite today you can buy the original base game, Horizons and Odyssey for the price of a single game. Less even if you time your purchase with any of the sales during the year. And assuming we get further DLC in the future, similarly if you wait, eventually you will be able to buy the whole lot for the price of a single game or less.

Is someone waxing lyrical about the future of SC while comparing to the current state of ED?

They're taking that old engine probably further than they thought they could, already. And of course they'll continue to, since at the same time, they'd be making sure the new engine filled with the latest greatest stuff possible before switching to it.
I doubt FDev has a lot more love left for ED after Odyssey, especially with it still sitting at mostly negative almost a year later. Their dino tycoons make them more money.
And with everyone saying the current engine is outdated, they must be making a new one right? Thats what some game developers do...make their own engines. Some dont...some use current ones like unity or Unreal, etc.
Problem is they've been slacking on upgrading their engine for nearly a decade, and even the Odyssey release with the "upgraded" engine didn't support simple things such as culling.
Some use ones that were outdated before they even started, like CIg with SC.
Outdated in what way? Cry Engine wasn't "outdated" in 2012. Their heavily modified Star Engine certainly isn't outdated now, lol.
And are you actually bringing up game and add-on prices? Go to your mirror, look in it, and ask yourself if you even believe you just asked that. LOL. SC has 2 things you can pledge that are under $50. Have you walked around the interior of those ships?
I have! I have also walked around the interior of those other ships you can pledge for, because they're not locked behind a paywall. Now ask an Horizons player that doesn't want to spend more if he has ever walked around an atmospheric planet, done any FPS combat or do anything on foot in Elite.
Still at it? Look, we all bow down to CR and CIg's ability to deliver nothing, while getting millions of dollars. Just like giving a baby a toy when it goes poopy. Wait, the baby is still producing more than CIg, so not the best analogy. But all other gaming companies, who are far out of the crib, have to resort to things like delivering products and adding content to garner money to pay their staff. There is literally no other company on the planet that gets millions of dollars for actually removing things from their deliverables other than the big baby CIg. So stop bringing that up as some sort of issue lol. And while you keep spoiling that big baby, they aren't going to develop.
Because what other big gamedev company has a public roadmap they consistently update? I assure you, any Alpha project out there had development timeline shifts at some point. People give CIG money, and? It's their money, they can do with it what they want.
Are you trying to say CIg never claimed to a release date, so it's ok for them not to release anything?
Yeah
No, you paid for a pledge, right? Can you actually buy the game? And are you still on the whole FDev is asking for money than CIG? What a troll lol.
No this isn't a pledge, it's a purchase. VAT applies.

My purchase of the Alpha 3.8 included: The Stanton System without Crusader as an LZ, Rest Stop Station interior variants, a new 890 jump mission, law system V2, mining heads, and so on. I got what was advertised for the Alpha 3.8. And more.

Eventually! By the time Odyssey is free and FDev is done with their next disaster of a DLC, SC might actually be released!

I mean, if you are happy just trying out a very broken and tiny piece of the game that has been presold, knock yourself out friend. The alpha is not SC though and you will still need to wait eventually for it to be fixed, completed and released. Unless you or CIG tell us that what we have now is it. In which case it would be nice to see some press reviews and scores.

No really need to use ridicule hyperbole though. Elite base game, Horizons and Odyssey can be bought at the price of a single game today. Even less if you time a sale. The same will likely happen for future DLC so 🤷‍♂️ . As for when « SC might actually be released ». well lol, I suspect that not even you are so naïve as to think that is coming any time soon. Which is also precisely another very good reason why your initial argument has been flawed for a while now.

It makes much more sense to compare things as they stand today. What content, features and quality is offered today at what price by both games. As for tomorrow? Well when tomorrow comes we will do the same and compare what each games offer and what price. Then to add the cherry on the cake and for giggles we can also look at the resources and budget spent by each developer to get there.

You've had the game for 2 years already. You've seen how slow things move at CIG. You'll be lucky to have static server meshing and 2 more systems in 6 years.
Lol, CIG moves slowly, but not that slowly. We'll have static meshing & Pyro by the end of this year.

16. 16 years.
Okay. And? In 6 years Elite will have been 14 years in development. (If FDev even supports it that is) and will most likely not have fulfilled all kickstarter promises! SC most likely won't fulfill all aswell. ED just "released" a bare bones product and added onto it. 8 years down the lines we still don't have all of the things Braben promised. ED dev is just as glacial as SC! Game development takes time, who would have thought!.

The SC PU is currently being worked on by about 100 people, I'd assume the number would be similar for ED (while it was in active development that is)
