At the CitizenCon Developers Table teleconference

Chris Roberts sits silently at the head of a table between his senior developers. Tens of thousands of whales watch them over Zoom with bated breath. Without warning, Chris begins hammering rhythmically on the table with his fists, chanting "wet, wet, wet, wet..."

The lead devs join a few seconds later, "Wet, Wet, Wet, WET", all pounding on the table.

One by one, the whales join in at home, smashing their fists on their laptops, screaming "WET, WET, WET, WET", as their consciousness recedes and their minds escape to an altered reality.

The funding passes the Billion mark.

From 2017. How's that "big budget" mocap from CIG going?

Oh wait. Because I do love me some Heilung...

Clouds. Smoke. Fire. Particles. Mocap. And... (stand back) for a console game?

How's the Gary Oldman speech holding up these days?
Wasn't really too convinced seeing early gameplay of Senua. But I picked it up some time after release and it felt a really good journey. Not quite Alien Isolation level but close.
Portal 2 is animal king in this genre for me. It doesn't really require much mocap - just a good script and impeccable delivery by voice actor. Plus good soundtrack. Maybe some nice visuals. Space walk on Sebastopol Station was pretty great. And the part where he kills you. These are milestone moments in gaming to me.

I do have sympathies because that's exactly what I did to the tunes of the Hearts of Iron 4 Soundtrack. Not only the soviet marches empower and enrich me culturally. The Axis theme resonates very well with me. Umpah, umpah, umpahpah! YES.

Ah well, anyway, I did a moron this weekend and bought a lot of HoI4 DLC. It's a Paradox game so you can assume they are fairly overpriced but what can you do - I waited years for sales and never really came to execute one.

Now I'm sinkening the Britishen enemy fleets and such from every angle possible - be it ze jermans, italians, indians, whathavyouians. Not because I take pleasure destroying ze Englishens - it's more that I cannot be bothered flicking through 100 units spread all over the world.
Same reason I didn't pick the immortal Gloire of France.
They tweaked quite a bit. Stalin now gets paranoia system and it's kinda similar in the US with senate house system. CAN I NOT GET A PEACEFUL DECENT ISLAND? With decent industry base? O Lord I HAVE to pick the Britsens for that don't I?

Umpah pah, umpah pah....

Why should you preoccupy yourself with the whole 10 years of dev boohoo thing everytime you play SC?
I don't, as I don't play SC :sneaky:

But the reason project history is relevant is that it informs you what is actually happening now, not just what happened in the past. We're not talking about Hello Games making an epic omnishambles of their initial release, but then brilliantly turning everything around. We're talking about CIG making an epic mess of managing their development, and it's still the same problem today. And that management failure at the top precedes SC by more than a decade, with the same problems.

People who buy in today are told "... and we will have 100 systems, with space whales, and aliens, and npcs that you CANNOT tell from a real human! Seriously! Hundreds of actual players crewing a capital ship! Amazing!".

And they don't have the context to say "Aye ok, sure "

Umpah pah, umpah pah....

My current PT is Trotskist Russia to try the 5th column trolling and the world is gone weird. Reich has recalled old Kaiser, UK went fascist. Hungary united with Austria using Habsburgers. Soviet Union decided a civil war early in favour of trotskist left and just couple weeks after Japan began preparing for war in far east. I didn't get to try the new spy mechanics until 1942 - just busy building factories and railroads. Far east is terrible.

Eye wetness!!!! Yes! The major update we've all been waiting for!
I love when CIG heralds things that aren't part of the roadmap or stretch goals that backers paid for.

[Boots up the Sims 2 and plays with realistic eyeball mods]

This is on par (though not quite) with the sign language emotes that CIG pushed to the press without following up or expanding upon.

Gonna go with an Apocalypse Now quote:

"Charging a man with murder in this place was like handing out speeding tickets in the Indy 500."

What? You don't think people signed up for a decade of pupil-to-planet art reworks?

So many things lost down memory holes... So much future deja vu... [2014]

It takes a lot of effort to make truly next-generation quality characters, and David Jennison and Billy Lord are doing their best to ensure that they live up to the high standards of the rest of the game.

Always worth a repost of David Jennison's letter to HR when he quit in disgust at Chris's absurd approach to art production

I wonder which version of the Character Art Team we're on now? V4.12?
