Update on Communication

And will take more and more, not only here in the forum.
But as a small company, the impact is not big (for the market).
Sad, because I love Elite and the game could be in a better management.

Let's wait and hope the good news are really good. :)

Well, putting it into perspective Arf started this thread just over two weeks ago, and then apparently he and someone else was hit with Covid for a week or so. Whatever progress they might have made on whatever it is they're supposed to be working on is delayed just in that. On top of all of this, they have the get-together this week that they're planning/preparing for, I assume, so that's going to take time away from whatever it is too. Or, maybe it'll push them to finish whatever it is for a big reveal at the event.

Assuming Arf isn't just blowing smoke up our you-know-whats, his original statement two weeks ago has a lot of positives for EDO. Apparently, there will be a new storyline starting up after the Azimuth Saga, updates and content expansions, and some twitch drop campaigns (which has to be a positive for the ED streamers).

All of that is positive imo. It doesn't explain why they have to go completely dark during all of this or why they have been so silent since the holiday break in December, but that's their MO. I think good things are coming for EDO, we just have to wait for them and just have to suck it up and accept this strange new silence.

That’s a fair point, and very well written.
You’ve changed my mind. Let's give them a little more time.

Thanks
(Btw, I’m not being sarcastic).

I would buy shares if David Pleasance was CEO!
Ha, I spoke to him at a computer show once, during the period they were pushing the MBO and before it anti-spectacularly amounted to nothing. Samsung was rumored to be interested too but the question was what on earth would have they done with a low footprint multimedia centric OS.. oh wait..

Im still bitter that his buyout bid for Amiga was sabotaged by Escom

I'm not sure Elite is a flagship title for Frontier any more.
It doesn't get the market penetration in the same way it did in 1984.

If you are looking for Marquee titles, I would suggest that
  • Jurassic World Evolution 1 & 2 is a bigger draw due to its connections to the film franchises
  • Warhammer 40k Chaos Gate has the potential to be bigger due to its connection to the GamesWorkShop IP
  • The upcoming F1 Management sim has the potential to be bigger due to the propensity for people to spend a fortune to watch cars drive round in circles.

I would say they are all bigger names than Elite now.

I can fully see why there would be a big debate ongoing within Frontier about whether to keep throwing developer resource / cash at a game that is in the twilight of its lifecycle.

Elite Dangerous launches - The Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy
Elite Dangerous Horizons - Life, the universe & everything
Frontier Festive Meet-up - The Restaurant at the end of the Universe
what next....
Fair points, but all the other IPs you mention are not owned by FDev and could easily disappear. I think your points about Elite are a little unfair too, the historical importance of Elite, while not as globally iconic, is up there with Mario. It is the daddy of all space games and I think the potential of it as an IP, beyond that of just the game, is by far yet to be realized.

Why change the original plan? That makes no sense at all.

ETA: The attendees have paid for a meet & greet (maybe with pizza) - changing it to a lecture from some middle manager on takeover progress would leave a bitter taste for those who spent their money for a social event.
Or more like added spice.

Very much hope you're right, KCalo.
