many people would have upgraded to next gen just to play EDO.

Yep, I had EDH on PS4 and even put money aside to get a PS5 JUST for EDH and EDO ONLY, and was totally looking forward to it BTW.
I would have bought EDO on PS5 without even thinking. Now I have the free EDH on PC only using GeforceNow and won't NEVER EVER touch EDO.

So who gets my money now - £9/month to Nvidia, NOT a penny to FD - their decision, their loss .

I bought a series X just because I knew my Xbox wouldn't be able to run EDO( in fact it was the only reason I upgraded) .
In PC terms they set min requirements ( well they got that wrong as well but ) and if you don't have the specs you can't play .. many people would have upgraded to next gen just to play EDO. They could always put the older consoles into legacy mode ? But that's by and by . In the end they made the call right or wrong .

I've heard a few people say the contracts a dev/publisher would sign with MS or Sony would prevent a game dlc being sold only to the next gen when the base game is on the older gen. No idea if it's true though.

I don't get it. Why not carry on playing EDH on ps4 for nothing and save the £9? If you're not going to bother with EDO?

I dip in to it now and again but it is Legacy.
Fought in the Live war for 26 weeks and have enjoyed the updates and Titan and Glaives and..............Don't need any 2nd rate FPS, got Mass Effect Legendary still to load and play - on my prev gen PS4 BTW.

It was clear Sony and MS were looking to shift people to the next gen.
Then we saw a bunch of titles cancelled for PS5 becoming Xbox exclusive. At that point PS5 was looking somewhat iffy.
Frankly at that point possible EDO was the only thing left on the horizon as far as upgrading from the PS4.
So what else was there, for myself it's X4 which immediately screams a move to PC from PS4.
Getting to port my PS4 Cmdr to PC is fantastic and I'm certainly satisfied with EDO and looking forward to whatever is coming (provided I have the option to high-wake if it starts eating through my hull).

But then again, there is an old and new gen base game of those titles, there is no new gen version of ED base game. So maybe that counts for something.

It always baffles me to see people so proud to cut off their nose to spite their face. Bonus points if they also rag on Frontier because of the pace of updates and fixes. Would it have been preferable to have seen Elite canceled for wont of getting Odyssey to work on last gen consoles? I guess, for some, that would be a yes.
