Update on Communication

If it was a buyout there would have been at least one leak from inside. Not buying it! Sorry!

I suspect FDev have had a complete management review of the future of ED and what can be dropped, together with the fact that there are just 2 active CM's planning for the get together instead of 5.

And the VM's are exactly that - Volunteers, not in the loop.

I have it on best made up authority that elite odyssey will become PC only, and transferred to a subscription model. FTW

Flimley
In principle, I wouldn’t hate that … but I just bought Odyssey at full price before the Steam sale that’s now on … so I would hope they’d at least give current folks who have paid for it recently a few months free …

But would Sony and MS go for a combined bid, and look to push forward with the loot box / pay to win model? I'm still looking out for more developments in the story, but it has been quiet in the FT since the story I reported. Makes me think it might have been a leak that got stomped on, but would they go for equal shares, or would one look to do over the other once they have got rid of braben?

The idea sounded hysterical when I first reported it in the other thread a few days ago, but the more information that comes out, the more it looks like a possibility. Think of the investment opportunities, and how the target value is dropping. And how long will they wait before they make a move? It could even be with someone like tencent, to spread the risk across more international markets.

How so? David is not a member of this forum. Has he ever been? And if he has, perhaps an overzealous administrator has blocked his account? Seriousness aside, in any case, this shows the general "appreciation" of this forum on Frontier's part. Nowadays, most people seem to migrate to the usual social media channels anyway.

But strange it is. If you look through the list of staff members, persons long gone are still listed. Even Sandro Sammarco is still there (though not "taggable", it seems).
Yes David is a member of this forum
I don't think David's account is blocked, but there have been some changes over the years. The forum used to be a VBulletin forum, but some years ago now, Frontier switched to their own forum software (as far as I can tell, it might be off-the-shelf) and it allows Frontier to do some new things with regards to running a forum, such as hiding accounts and all posts by said account. I know that at least one post I made in a thread has been moved to a section of the forum I don't have access to. The person who started the thread, David Walsh (I forget his position, I think it's Chairman) is also not searchable on the forum. I think Frontier have taken the very understandable step of protecting employees of Frontier from unsolicited messages.

David Braben doesn't post often for the same reason he rarely appears in public with the Elite community, because he'd get mobbed (either with praise or criticism).

I dunno what's scarier matey - FDev getting bought or the thought of you reading the FT ;)

And... communication skills are extremely important in times like this. :)
If Brabes thought that he could mitigate unwanted M&A activity by getting Arf and team to post updates, the place would be dripping in CM posts...

Surely used as a summer blanket on park benches?

I can just see the sales pitch; "Yep, you get EDO, the latest expansion in the ED franchise and a....passionate....community along with it! Disclaimer: Sold "as is", no takebacks ".

Without reading the rest of your post... but please tell me you didn't take that part seriously, did you?

That's my reaction to you. Not because I made a mistake, but you did, twice. I get fed up of people in this community, and the internet in general trying to retcon what they said and claim they meant something else, and "no, you're the idiot" attitudes (I'm not claiming you are calling me an idiot, just so we're clear on that).

And whether I did or did not take your post seriously, answer me this, why is there a rumour that Frontier are getting bought out? I know, I'm wondering if you do. The answer to that will explain one of the reasons I replied to your post with the reply I did.
