At least they are representing human diversity.

Well, I suspect it is no big secret that one of CIG´s strategies is precisely to bank on the memory loss of most backers and cater for the new comer point of view.

What's more, as the first generation backers get older and natural aging does its thing, they'll have a harder time remembering things; time is finally working in CIG's favour ;)

I too like to harp on about the same 3 'ED Refugees' endlessly:

  • The 'ED refugee' who seemingly gave away $2.5k of ships in disgust, having worked with Chris previously, and having been assured by current CIG employees that Chris was making all the same mistakes again, leading him to conclude that the game "cannot be done" and that "they are simply taking in pledges as a revenue stream"
  • The 'ED Refugee' who loved SC, rapidly spent $500, regretted that within weeks, and now refers to SC as a "Perma Alpha scam"
  • The 'ED refugee' who summarises his positive experiences at length in posts titled things like: "Everything is broken and I love it"

I know you and others here won't want to hear it... but...

A lot of players I've encountered over there jokingly refer to themselves in this manner as 'ED Refugees' (said in a light hearted rhyming cadence on a discord, usually).

Still having fun, btw.

Why would I not want to hear it? Was literally just discussing it ;)

Cool, have fun. (But only pledge for that which Chris has truly physicalised ;))

Just the general feeling I got from the dismissal of Dan using that term.

Yeah, am doing. Won't lie, I'm at the '25p for every hour played' stage, so think I've already got my moneys worth.

That said, some of the people I've encountered have spent a shocking amount which of course is their right, but it boggles my mind.

Particularly when you see the vitriol you receive when you take down someone in a credit card ship using something you bought ingame and co-ordinated work with your mates.

Nah it’s not dismissal of the term, or the phenomenon. Just eye rolling at grand claims based on tiny (self-selected) sample sizes. By Dan & various others.

It turns out ED refugees are actually a pretty broad church. (Some of them are carving David Braben’s butt into NMS voxels in VR, for a start ;))

Ironically enough, what's deterred me most from buying into SC is ED.

Elite: Dangerous is, by most traditional measures, a permanent alpha. It's not even close to feature complete, and the features it does have are riddled with bugs. More importantly, it's development trajectory has continually disappointed me, to such a degree that I'm highly adverse to any online title (as I can't just run an older build of these) that I think could evolve along a similar path. Sure, there have been other games that, over time, transformed from something I enjoyed to something I did not, and I still find ED enjoyable from time to time, but nothing else I've played has strayed so far from the promise it held when I started. I didn't have as high expectations for Jumpgate, or Planetside 2, or Hawken, so having them progress beyond my desire to engage with them wasn't as jarring.

Anyway, I have no idea where Star Citizen will ultimate wind up, or what path it will take to get there, and I'm disinclined to back another game that could similarly disappoint me down the line, especially if it does so before I think I've gotten my money or time's worth out of it.

The dismissal is because he is incapable of making a post about SC without posting a Katie video and referencing ED refugees.

Its not that there are not people who played ED and switched to SC, that's fine.

I used to play other games as well, maybe I should start introducing all my posts...."as a refugee from......." from now on! People change games, seriously if SC had achieved even a tenth of what they set out to achieve I might be playing it now, but it hasn't and I suspect it never will!

As a refugee from Neverwinter Nights 2, and i'm sure there are many more like me, thousands of us i'm sure, i can only say ED is a much better space sim that NWN2!!!

Funds have never been an issue for the completion of SC/SQ42... right?

- From fulfillment of all stretch goals at 65 million in 2014,

- And CR confirming in 2015 to us there were enough funds to deliver the game,
Roberts scoffs at the notion that the company will run out of money before the final game is delivered. "It's not going to happen. We keep a pretty healthy cash reserve.
- To CR then saying in 2017 if funding was to stop there were reserves only really to fund SQ42
if no money came in, we would have sufficient funds to complete Squadron 42nd The revenue from this could in turn be used for the completion of Star Citizen.
- To the need to go to external investors for funding in 2018, twice

- To the totally normal behaviour of a financially solid company in 2022

No reason to worry though, I am sure those 450 million plus external investments fully reflect CIG true financial health and pretty much guarantee the complete release of the BDSSE and fulgurant rise to the totally deserved top of the review charts.

Without bringing politics into it, but have to wonder how the current global situation will affect funding.

I must congratulate you on the use of "fulgurant", you are truly a man of words!

Heads up everyone.

This is a thread for the discussion of Star Citizen. Stay on topic if you wish to be able to post in here.

I have removed some blatant off topic posts and stuff replying/quoting them.

If one of your posts has disappeared and you think it is on topic, sorry - but tough.
