Missions. I just dont understand

For example. they need 4 coffee. I check all the star systems around! I cant find it anywhere how do you know where to go for what the quest is asking? I go to the map that shows all the biggest trade. I go to the one that has the most food coming out of it and no cofee! is this game all about just warping back and forth.. seriously thats all i feel that I do. Just warp warp warp warp. nothing else.

Well... as you fly around more, you will be more familiar with the universe. Ideally in your travels you will come across a place that sells coffee and next time use that knowledge when you take a "need coffee" mission.

However I feel the game needs an in-game journal to take note of those things.

in the galaxy map you can see who exports which products. Since I found that out the only prblems I had was low stock on the stations that offered the merchandise.

I just don't see any objective to the game besides transporting goods, and shooting down a wanted person here and there. there is no chat. I barely see any PVP. nobody talks. its a big bore! think I wasted my money.

Yer I have had this problem too. I have started to use http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Goods but its not a guaranty that they will have them as you know.

Its also my opinion that your better taking the missions that get you to deliver they products, better money as you don't need to buy the product so the reward is not based on how cheap you find what they want.

Good luck

This! In the galaxy map you can drill down/view trade routes for specific products (eg coffee). If you go into this view mode, expand the categories and deselect all other products in the same category as coffee ( eg tea) you'll find major coffee selling hubs.

Edit: click on the triangle in front of each product category on the map to expand the category and show all products in that category.

There's chat if you bother to check your comms. You can contact any person near enough with it.

I have found that the missions have been quite random (good) so far. I was looking for a way of locating the resources for some of those 'we want this' missions so looking in the galaxy map will be useful for that.

I was however wondering, is the lack of a commodity market on all station deliberate or is that something that is just not fully implemented yet?

For example If I spend the time to go out to the 'd' component of a system, dock at the station there am I supposed to not be able to sell them anything?

Yup! Not what they advertised. You will get a lot of single player mindlessness telling you you do it wrong.

I believe it's deliberate. I do have a tip for you that will help eliminate wasted trade journeys: in the system view of the galaxy map only stations listed with imports/exports have commodity markets.

Some markets might (or will be) on planets, and we don't have planetary landings (yet). So if some system lacks stations in orbit, but is listed as trading in this-or-that is just an indication of planetary base/city/nation/etc to visit when we can land there.

Not all of them have markets, as a matter of fact. Most do, yes, but not all - there is places which list imports/exports but their existing (landable... is that a word?) stations have no commodity market.

This is just the Beta not the full game. So I don't it think its fair to judge it as if it was the finale product.
None of the story mode is happening yet.
Not sure how PVP is going to work out as its going to be a very big place. Would not be putting your hopes on doing lots of that.

Hang in there.

Sorry you're not enjoying the game - I guess it's inevitable that it will tick all the boxes for some people, a few for others, but for some, none at all :(

Try finding a group of like-minded players outside the game, particularly one with a Teamspeak server. It makes a huge difference to the social aspect - unfortunately the in-game comms don't really do a great job of this.

I also suspect (no proof, this is an educated guess) that the devs will have some surprises in store for us that will liven things up before too long.
