Oh Well, It's a Beta...

I sure am seeing a lot of problems for this close to release.

So far this evening it's locked up several times, crashed to desktop at least twice but even worse is the infuriating problems with docking and undocking. Half the time it just ignores your request to launch and the other half of the time it ignores your clearance to land. Out of the 10 or so trade runs I tried to do tonight maybe 1 or 2 went without a hitch.

BTW, if it ever won't let you land...do not cancel your landing clearance in a desperate attempt to get another one that works. You will be blown up for trespassing! 50k down the drain, lol.

You can use the "it's a beta" line for 5 more weeks and I'll happily accept that. Then I don't know, there's a limit to how much frustration I'll put up with.
 
A couple of months ago there were no issues docking/undocking for me. It's only since I came back to try beta 3 that I've started noticing. So I'm sure its not going to be too hard to fix.
 
what mode of play are you having problems in? I play in a private group and have had none of the issues you mention, could it possibly be firewall related?

It happens a lot in open play and I suspect it's related to the network code which they seem to be having a lot of trouble with. I'm sure they'll work it out eventually but it's hard to take the game too seriously with all of these problems right now.

I'm generally patient about such things, but sigh.
 
There is an undeniable correlation between the amount of traffic in a given location and the likelihood of some sort of glitch, but interestingly problems with the islanding are not so much in evidence now. When I do have problems it's mainly seemingly random crashes, slowdowns and other issues, and almost always in the vicinity of large stations. Out on the frontier things run very smoothly, apart from stuttering which seems to be related to planetary textures, and occurs even when I'm the only player in a system.
 
Lot of people talk about network code but i think it's more a server load problem. Only times i got some problems is when it's weekends or popular hour gaming. I don't think the server is powerful enough for the new flow of players arriving each days into the game. It's part of the stress test so we need to deal with it.
