BINOCULARS !!!

(in first Google translation, in french below):

As I am more of an explorer/biologist, it seems essential to me to have a tool such as A good PAIR OF BINOCULARS (displaying the distance)!!!

Let me explain :
Firstly, for exobiology: besides the fact that we have no traces of our sample scans (suggestion still relevant… 😉 ), as everyone knows we have to move away from each sample a few hundred meters …
It would be very wise to evaluate the distance of the following bio to have a tool such as BINOCULARS WITH the OPTION to TARGET! so as not to grope there with the SRV, on foot or by ship…
We see almost in all SF films this kind of BINOCULARS which displays the distance and which can be in infrared… I post an example in attachment.
There is also the visual aspect which would really be a plus for the gameplay of exploration walks on distant planets...

Note that fans of foot conflict gameplay could also greatly benefit from such a tool! (a military version).
Besides, I'm surprised that there aren't yet any vehicle weapons equipped with a zoom displaying the distance, for example on the new Scorpion... that would really add a significant dimension to the combat and the visual...

Thank you in advance for listening and implementing this tool in future updates…

Usually they use a sniper rifle virtual and indicate with a gesture.

Point gesture has very limited maximum distance. As well as sniper rifle doesn't give desired "field of view" in scope.

At the same time it is hard to imagine binoculars mounted to the helmet from outside, but I guess it should be possible in year 3300.

There was a parallel suggestion for adding a deployable drone - could be an alternative to binoculars.

Now that's a quite nice suggestion.
And i can really see it working for Dominators in combat (assuming it can be shot down), for Artermisses in exploration / exobio gathering.
And even for Maveriks in Scavenging and general settlement action - especially if a drone can be let outside to feed us information while we're inside buildings

Ah yeah! that's gresat the trick of the drone! it's an excellent new suggestion that could complete mine!
thank you !

thank you for your answer, that's exactly what I suggested to him for the snip gun, it's worth nothing..
So I had considered the possibility of the zoom being integrated into the helmet as in certain SF films... but for fun you can very well hold binoculars in your hand and stick them against the glass of the helmet, that's all plausible...
yes I saw the donre's proposal in the following comment and it's a great idea!
thanks again

FDev please take a break, go play No Man's Sky for a bit and use the Multi-tool Scanner. Bring some of those ideas back to Elite.

Be afraid of your desires. If they make us binoculars, we will be collecting materials for it for three months.

The drone idea is cool. It should also be able to scan stuff. Identify and threat assignments as well as bio scans for Flora n fauna for exo. For tinker suits it should have the ability to pinch id's hehe

Yeah, hacking into containers, collecting materials, and generally operating right from the ship.

I see their introduction as elementary and very useful.

As an idea for implementation (how this should work):
  • Artemis suit with "heat-seeking" binoculars for searching bio signatures at long range (especially those hard, pesky-to-observe bacterial collonies on foot)
  • Dominator suit with combat binoculars, capable of scanning for enemies (and possibly radar locking them so you know at all times where they are) and giving you information at least for enemy loadouts like weapons, armor etc.
  • As for Maverick, they could introduce a basic binoculars function or just skip it to encourage other suits to be used for this purpose

I can’t understand how we don’t have binoculars in the game yet. It’s million billion years in the future but we don’t have a simple device to see things closer? Neither on ship nor on foot?

It‘s a super basic piece of equipment (used for centuries!) that could be useful in many aspects of the game - combat, exploration…

Why FDev? Why?

It's easier for you than for me. And I can not understand why I have to collect a bunch of materials to make the module of emulation of firing in an airless space switchable.

That’s a fair point. ED doesn’t make it easy for any of us.

I could start making a list of every single ridiculous thing in ED but I’m afraid I would run out of Internet and I wouldn’t even be halfway through…
