Any progress in E.D?

When we say "Procedural" it really is not in the natural sense. More like a ZIP file. This file is called a master key. (In my head at least) Think of it like an algorithm.

What? What on earth are you rambling on about, procedural generation is nothing like a ZIP file, I am afraid your qualifications in making stuff up is going to have to be seriously reconsidered by the University of Rambling and Waffling.

....That's why the performance is crap. ...
Hey Gyp

Great to see you last night, heres that snap I took of your new gaming PC, like I said I would add some LEDs but apart from that its pretty smart.

PS "Dave" said hi and forgot to add when he kicked you out that your P45s behind the blue bin.

Ah, I see why they have performance issues - it is obvious!

That's a Maris Piper, everyone knows that a King Edward outperforms it!

Hi guys.

Just taking a peek in the door. Any signs yet that F.D are looking at their actual code? Or is Odyssey still trying to be the stumbling gaslight? To detract from the fact that the fine folks at F.D have run into a brick wall when it comes to Procedural Generation? I'm all for EDO being a success.
I advised university help with this. Way back. So far, I see nothing of the sort.
Programming ED is like trying to spray paint a square on the water above a fish. Sure, you can dump a FPS on top, but the fish is eventually gonna realize it can just swim away.
And that is why this is a nightmare for the programmers.
You have a logic engine sitting on top of a procedural engine. It's like setting up an emulator to situate the universe again and then simulate object placement and blending. Twice. That's why the performance is crap. And the more they put in that logic engine, the problem becomes exponentially worse.
For every logical layer that is added, the procgen has to be done again. If you put ship interiors in the game... The GPU/CPU would probably have a hernia. And explode.
At this stage no consoles have the ability to simulate this. That's why it can't be ported. Yet.

Am I right? Not sure. But I understand maths, physics and programming well enough to say it is probably what is going on.
I said to Dave at the start. "Watch out..." I meant that with sincerity and goodwill.
Hopefully they have realized this and have some good mathematicians on site and have used EDO as a delaying tactic. It's what I would do. In their current situation.

Gyp.

Rambling aside which others have pointed out I'd like to take issue with YOUR broken promises.

^ That was your last post yet here you are!!!

I haven't been writing code for a couple of centuries, but I think the problems here and now are mostly gone, and the rest seems to be not using the CPU/GPU efficiently.

That said, ED is a monumental achievement. It is, by far, the best computer game I have tried in the last 40 years, and beats games like NMS by several lightyears. I find that the EDO launch was a laughable mess, but only the way it was "managed". I sincerely respect the effort put into this game, and after thousands of hours in VR, it still blows my mind. Every time.

I'm sorry, I have to agree with you... But the original '84 Elite comes a very close 2nd...

We (me & some friends) have been playing together in EDO, just doing 'stuff' (which may or may not end with bounties and notoriety) and still are surprised by the 'little details' in the settlements we invade play in, I think they are very well done.

Hi, computer programming expert here.
With all my years of coding and extensive knowledge of Pascal and COBOL, I stepped up and offered my advice to Mr. Braben last night. I advised him to have his programmers simply turn the servers "off", pull the cartridge out, smack it with an open hand once and blow on it three times, re-insert the cartridge and turn the system back "on". This should fix the problem and they can go ahead with update 11 now.

This is free of charge, you're all welcome.

EDIT: All you ever need to remember in COBOL, for the uninitiated - well done Ratty :) -
That has stuck in my head for the last 33 years!!!
