2 reasons it won't happen

1st and foremost, PC and console are often not on the same patch/game version. Ie. Odyssey on PC but Horizons Odys Compatible on Console. But frequently patches are pushed to PC or Console specifically for issues that pretain only to them.

2nd. Even if they did line up the game versions perfectly, PC users would ALWAYS have a huge, unfair advantage over Console users. Making game play completely unbalanced/unfair.

On PC, ED users have access to things like outside tools, voice commands, custom HUD colors, overlays, all kinds of stuff, there's an entire website of over 200 tools for PC Elite Dangerous... they are 1000% not accessible to Console users.

This second reason, would be the one and only reason, if it were not for today's announcement that Console isn't getting Odyssey ever! Because likely slightly different patch versions could have been over come for cross platform play, but the second reason still couldn't. With the complete denial of Odyssey for Console now, it makes the first problem even more so because Odyssey users can visit/hide on planets not accessible to Horizons (console) users.

All console development has been cancelled.

That means Odyssey, whatever comes after Odyssey and - probably - absolutely everything apart from critical bug fixes. Who am I kidding, they’ll be no bug fixes for console either.

Cross-play? Not a chance … just hope they keep the server APIs consistent so Horizons continues to work …

It's a conscious choice by fdev to not completely ban/disallow tools on PC... even though their EULA says otherwise.

Once that choice was made, it was done, no cross play due to unfair advantages.

Do you know of any cross play games that do allow things like 3rd party tools on PC, but not on console? I don't... normally any cross play games prevent the use of 3rd party tools on PC, specifically to level the playing field....
If they did that, they could then sure, do fair cross play.... but that would disable alot of work put in by an avid PC player base who has spent years building these tools now....
Even look at GameGlass, that alone could be a huge advantage, basically unlimited hot key settings and screens.... in combat, it's simply unfair to console users who can't do it....

Anyways, I never meant to imply it was impossible in the sense that it COULDN'T EVER BE DONE EVER BY ANYONE, but that it would be impossible in this situation given the choices that have been made by fdev, including today's.

If what Fdev need is more money, they should offer us something to buy into. Cross play development would do that for PvP playerbase I think

Now more than ever they should enable crossplay, but only between PS and XB

Edit: crossplay will increase a bit the number of players in multiplayer. Or at least will sort of compensate for the loses both platforms will sustain based on yesterday's announcement

PvP is a tiny part of cross-play. The huge majority of player interaction is collaborative, just look at the Fuel Rats, Distant Worlds and the Hutton Truckers. Discounting all of that just because some poor sap doesn't know how to fly away in a straight line regardless of platform means nobody can fly together?

when you dont want to do it you may find many reasons... for us commnity is important and we want to play together, fdev and you have many reasons but there are other games succesfully implemented this, API available to many external developers and service providers is not stopping cross play
