Security scan on foot issues

Thanks. That raises another question. Some say the lower symbols indicate that you've had your one and only warning about being in a restricted area/pulling out a gun where you shouldn't, and will get shot at next time. It makes more sense to me that it means you are currently doing these things, and should go carefully.
Well, they are correct. I have a feeling we've been here before. Now you're probably going to try and correct me with what you think makes sense, but bear with me:
  • The first icon indicates that you have a bounty with either the owning faction or the superpower aligned with said faction (fines do not seem to count). If a guard scans you with this icon active, they will aggro.
  • The second icon indicates you have prohibited Items in your inventory (i.e. items forbidden in the jurisdiction of the owning factions) or Items which has been marked as Stolen (strangely enough, stolen Components do not count). If a guard scans you with this icon active, they will give you fine proportional to the number of Items and will aggro.
  • The third icon indicates it's too hot or too cold for your suit and it will use extra battery to compensate for this. If a guard scans you with this icon active, they will not aggro.
  • The fourth icon indicates you have been caught once trespassing in restricted areas. If you trespass again and an NPC sees you, they will aggro. If a guard scans you with this icon active, they will not aggro.
  • The fifth icon indicates you have been caught holding and/or firing a weapon or that you threw a deployable. If you are caught doing this again, they will aggro. If a guard scans you with this icon active, they will not aggro.

That sounds rather testy. Are you talking down to me for expressing an opinion (which I certainly am not claiming to be gospel)?

If where we've 'been before' is the missing planet thread, that was a very different situation, where I was being repeatedly offered an 'explanation' that didn't seem to fit the available data, and then treated to a series of condescending posts for expressing doubts. Here, I'm looking for clarification about how a C&P system works. No bugs are involved, only a range of opinions. You yourself have contradicted BDelacroix over guards automatically aggroing when either of the last two icons are lit, but I'm sure none of us need to have a shouting match over it.

I'm going to log in and test these suggestions, not shield up and start firing wildly.

And if where we've 'been before' is somewhere else, you'll have to clarify.

... how to hell to stop on mid-jump ?
I cannot say if this will help as I have not (yet) been in this situation, a mid-air scan, but you can control your motion in the air using the usual on-foot nav keys (WASD defaults). In particular the S-key will cause you to lose altitude fairly fast, though maybe not fast enough. If one is curious and perhaps a bit foolish, perhaps try turning toward the guard in mid-air while mashing the S-key. Couldn't be any worse than getting shot to death while imitating a frisbee, right?

So, yes, the gun icon lights up, and stays lit, after a warning to stow weapons.

What I didn't expect was that a warning from a lowly worker, rather than a guard, was enough to use up my grace period, when I failed to shoot her immediately because of that almost invisible target dot. Shooting from behind, or a distance, is recommended for the future.

And it's weird what qualifies as taboo. Degraded power regulators?

The bottom one is a gun with a line through it. It means you've had your one chance at brandishing.
The next one up is a running guy with a line through it. That one means you had your one chance at being caught in a restricted zone (trespassing).

Even with alarms off, the members/visitors of a settlement are telepathic.

I'm up to speed with what they all mean now, I think (although I'm curious to know if anyone has ever found a 'Goldilocks' planet, where the temperature icon doesn't light up?)

It's what your last sentence illustrates that leads to a lot of salt, AFAICS, because it means all bets are off as to what rules apply.

It may be, for instance, that failing a power restoration mission doesn't lead to a bounty/ and or prison, but rather, dying while in possession of contraband. If a DPR is illegal, how much more likely is that going to be with a working regulator? I'll have to check that icon when I'm carrying one.

Haven't paid attention as I don't notice the increased battery usage.

Having said that I was particularly annoyed with the last heist as it was draining my batter pretty fast while I waited for the right moment to "scan" a volunteer for their security clearance.

Anyone know the rules of guard scanning: does it depends of security level settlements/system, day or night, or it's just random? How often guards can try to scan? Do we have time intervals between scanning?

No and no, it only depends on roughly being inside the red circle on the radar. They will always want to scan you. However, if you did just get scanned there's a little grace period in which they won't bother you (I haven't timed it, but it's at least a minute or two).
