ED on Consoles just died official

I don't regret a single penny I spent on Elite over the years. I have had tremendous fun and amassed a lot of good memories. I don't want my money back - all I would like is an assurance that I will be able to keep playing Elite in its current form at least. Not "currently", not in the next months or year, but until Elite Dangerous itself exists. The servers are there, the BGS is shared. I want to keep taking part in it, even if new content doesn't arrive anymore. This is what I'd like to have. And clear communication about why it's feasible (or if it's not, why not).

Who knows Dreams.

Maybe we all meet again in an entirely new Elite game with the full support on Consoles. Let's hope.

no, this taught me not to buy or trust frontier. EVER. just upgraded my rating on xbox to a 1 and a angry review. i recommend more do the same. teach them a lesson and make it a 1 star game on xbox at least.
I can understand where you are coming from I too am angry, it’s the way the management has handled the situation on this like keeping use on the dark close to an year and not saying anything in between, I spent A lot of money to be ready for Odyssey, New Xbox, Hotas and TV. And that with a lot of overtime work through Xmas which I did not spend with my family and now I have look into a PC rig which I can tell you is going to be very expensive for me on minimum wage so any one who say it cheap can take a running jump because it not, especially with rent, utilities and food going up.

Oh I am angry at the situation. I honestly think this is the easy way out. I understand development on the last gen consoles is an absolute no go. But i can't see any reason, also due to the lack of explanation, why this game will not run on XboxSeriesX and PS5.

I mean it is fixed hardware comparable with a gtx2080 PC. But this is not the topic.

I had an awesome 8 a 9 years. I still got my PC CMDR as well so I hope someday my 1080 PC will be able to run it above 17 fps average. All money spent was wel worth it. (I guess its over 500 bucks over the last 8 years. )

And really hope someday we will get a new Elite. With a basecode that IS workable for the developers.

That said, even though It's on me I took that Elite sabbatical, I absolutely hate the fact that so many friends left, and communities are broken. Its not just a game they killed. Its friendships as well. And I really hope those who decided this can't catch any sleep over it.

I just wanted to say, even though I build liquid cooled gaming PC's for a living I no longer have the will to do it for myself anymore totally sick of upgrading every few years and burnt out with it feel a little guilty at the masses amount of money I'd spent over the years. I'd rather take my family on a nice holiday than put 2/3k into a new gaming rig, not that I have time to play games as much as I did before a family.

But the nvidia 3X launch really put me off PC gaming I was going to upgrade then but that debacle was the final nail in the coffin plus the cost of GPU nowadays is just nuts.

I was super stoked for odyssey but at release it became apparent I no longer had the power to run it.

My old 4670k and 980 struggled with odyssey so I opted for a Xbox S and bought a mac for day to day use with the view to playing odyssey on the xbox S when released.

So frontier just lost a player and supporter, I'm not going to rush out and buy a PC to play odyssey and now its no longer coming to consoles its pointless putting anymore time into the game. Pretty sad and gutted as this was the one game I have loved all my life since playing it on the spectrum 48k as a kid.

I am shocked they did not develop for the next gen consoles and I am shocked at Davids lack luster post on the issue and would have preferred a more better explanation on why xbox x/s and playstation 5 were also canned.

I have always tried to support Frontier as they are a UK company and due to the history, I have bought there other games and bought ARX but I am done now they are now on the list of people to avoid.

they wont lose any sleep and its funny you think that i dont love this game. i saw this happening a mile away and called it out months after they announced it was an "indefinite delay" which was crap. No they wont care or learn from this unless we do something. unless we use our voices in reviews and MARK this game so that they never forget. and with our wallets so that they know We wont forget either. its management yes but the only way the ones at the top feel it is if you target the company as a whole.

I can only speak for myself of course but I think we're so upset because ED means that much to us.
As Dusty said, it's not just a game, it's also the community, the friendships made and the collective mindset of all the players.
ED is the best game I've ever played, not because the game was bug free or that what was added through time was that good but the community, the theme, the ships, ugh so much more was good.
It's bitter that we the console players are just dismissed with a short PSA note by Mr Braben, no real explaination, no word on any ability to transfer to pc, nothing.

It shows how much we as (paying and supporting) players mean to them, zilch so it seems.
I said it before but I blame this and the horrible release of Odyssey on poor management, especially by Mr Braben.
To be honest they treated us console players as trash, thank you for your money but you're no longer feasable.

I definitely lost all trust in Frontier and won't support them ever again by buying anything they release.
Not unless something drastic happens regarding managment which I don't see happening.

A two year old PC has problems with Odyssey, why ever believe it could perform satisfactorily on PS4 or Xbox?
Odyssey runs much better relatively with a faster GPU and new PC and would probably improve on a new gen console.

The marketplace fact that there has been a complete scarcity of next gen consoles to purchase for two years, let alone develop for, kind of makes it unprofitable.

It was always a shoehorn into consoles, there was always compromises. No more distraction from single codebase dev now..
Tell me none of the console players haven't had their money's worth 10 times over again.

Some consolation: I think the Horizon servers will be there for a while. Its costs pennies to run a P to P network.
Once separate, Horizons also could be come moddable eventually
I have microsoft flight simulator that runs great on xbox series x. I refuse that a game like elite that runs on toasters doesn't work on my next gen console. Don't offend my intelligence, Frontier is simply INCAPABLE OF PROGRAMMING

Same.

I can't comprehend why Frontier can't do what many others can.
All my games whether simple or resource heavy ones like Flight Simulator run very well on my Series X.
Developers with just a handfull employees run their games on multiple platforms, Hello Games comes to mind, NMS runs on pc both consoles and now they're adding switch too.
When the Ps5 and Series X came out it took them only a short time untill a more enhanced version of NMS was released, oh and full vr support too.
NMS might be simpler in code then ED but Hello Games runs on a fraction of devs compared to Frontier.

Bad choices and mismanagement are at full play here imho, I think Frontier's devs are more then capable but the higher ups (read Mr Braben) are either to stubborn or don't know how to lead a good game company.
I can imagine Mr Braben having this vision for Elite and that vision is the golden rule whether it's doable or not, whether that vision is in correlation with what players want or not.
Or there's the even worse possibility and they don't realy even know what they want, thing is though the higher ups are quite disconnected from their players base and maybe even from their own devs imho.

I think problem is that they are on time table they are trying stick with in the story and there is not much time left so they are saving time by sacrificing use both Xbox and ps to save money and time, I really don’t think there is a problem making the DLC for both consoles maybe the old systems, but not the new ones. It’s just a idea

I doesn't even have to run that well on Xbox One and PS4. Look at the Cyberpunk 2077 situation. The last-gen versions were never sorted out and probably never will be. But the game runs wonderfully on the new consoles. If Frontier really wanted to bring Odyssey to consoles, they could've done exactly this. Yes, the game would've not been optimized for last-gen, but it is what it is. Console players could've still played (and paid) regardless. It's not like absolutely no one has a Series X|S or PS5 to enjoy the game to its fullest.

Personally I don't think it's a matter of whether consoles (especially the PS5 and SX) can run it or not or a matter of whether the devs are capable enough to port it to console.
I think it's purely a mismanagement issue, Odyssey was obviously going over their heads and was released waay to soon, now their suffering bad sales, share drops and lack of time to pull things straight.
They just cut off the least profitable portion of their production and try to keep their heads above water and satisfy the share holders.

Mismanagement shines all overe here, it has nothing to do with the devs capabilities or the lack of processing power of consoles, especially the PS5 and Series X.
Just look at what kind of games do run, and very well I might add, on console.

The lack of empathy, especially by Mr Braben scribbling just a short PSA, is shocking and incredible disappointing though.
If that is the way you treat your very loyal player base who spent thousands of hours and quite the money on your product then in my book you don't deserve such loyal player base, at all.
Mr Braben and his upper staff should be ashamed of themselfs, very ashamed.
ED might be close to his heart, the players are definitely not so it seems.
