Battle droids

As the title says. We are in the far future. Aliens, Hyper jump... It is logical to have battle droids. Settlements may have few strong, powerful and difficult to kill battle droids which will be activated with the settlements allarms going on or from a special terminals in the settlement by an engineer. Instead of taking out his pistol and start shooting the commander this enginer could run to a terminal and activate the battle droids. They can be also present in conflict zones and being activated when/if defending side losed 50% of their points.
Battle droids are slightly (or more) larger than a human and very well armed with good resistances and with superior weapons.

Yes we are in the future, the Elite Dangerous universe future, a reading of the lore might help, AI is basically banned!

Machine sentience has been banned in Federal, Empire and Alliance space due to it having been proven very dangerous when it was created on a few occasions. AI which imitates humans is less advanced than machine sentience. However, it is believed that one or two AI (sentient machines) have escaped into deep space.

So no Battle Droids!

That's a pity. At least I hope to get guardian battle droids with the AI that destroyed them. But something really challanging in term of on foot combat to motivated team play.

Sentry skimmers are about as close we are likely to get. Maybe if they get the driving AI down: SRVs. However, I like the thought of technicians and such running away to sound alarm. Even when the alarms are turned off, they should try to go alert a guard if they know there is one nearby.

lore

there are hints and rumors in the lore as well...
If you have never yet killed a Goliath though, I say careful what you ask for.

that aside
bringing this up does make me wonder why EDO is not using the skimmers and goliaths in these settlements...
seems like a fair size dis-connect, if you ask me.

and now on another tangent..
if, if these were working in edo like they are in EDH, maybe my settlements wouldn't be so full of death!!.

Battle droids, as they're being described here, don't require a sentient A.I. to be effective. In fact, we know that security/sentry robots exist and are common in the official lore. The Achilles Corporation makes humanoid robots, which appear in their ads and have been featured in GalNet news reports on multiple occasions. Specifically, the XS801 security robot is in widespread production, and the XS1001 advanced security robot prototype was stolen by the Winking Cat late last year. There was also an ominous kerfuffle a while back when it came to light that their personal assistant bots were being compromised and given firmware updates that included surveillance functions, and possibly more lethal capabilities.

Given their ubiquity in the general society of Elite, I was expecting to see humanoid Achilles bots here and there at stations and settlements when Odyssey launched. I wasn't expecting them to necessarily be doing anything particularly interesting (since they're not self-aware), but their complete absence in Odyssey has been striking. Surely some of those surly settlement guards walking lonely patrols would've been replaced by equally surly (or mute) bots!

Yeah, something like the non-Geth robot enemies in Mass Effect 2 that are explicitly not sapient. So in Odyssey, robots that are are basically skimmers with legs would make sense.
