Finally they tell the truth

I have said this from the point they turned around on the decision at the release, they have lied and lied and have never attempted to make a release for consoles. Just kept saying sure we will, we will get round to it and by the way keep buying those skins for your ships and ship kits.

I really dont think they lied
However, after the financial results of the first half of FY2022 (June-November) which were posted in mid January (1.3 millions pounds loses), they had to make some budgetary cuts.

hrm... could things have gone wrong?

they went wrong way back when the initial work started in porting the engine to the newer cobra code-base and it regressed performance by over 50%. Development of whatever required that rendering update should have halted until resolved then and/or future development should have either pivoted to features that wouldn't be a regression of the overall game or the new content should have been changed so that it would work without such impact to the rest of the game (ala cqc).

So like nearly 2 years ago at least.

I'm not sure what about how they've developed the game would have given them the idea that they'll optimize/finish/polish/complete something they're planning on going with now, later. cough powerplay cough

Do they honestly think this is gonna help there bottom line now ?Destroying any chance of recouping there losses ? They screwed themselves now !

I guess we see the same picture, read the same tweet, but then we do not process the information in the same way.

That tweet is the personal opinion of an ex-Fdev employee.
With the mention that ex-employee worked with Frontier for a long time, was a lead dev and part of the team that developed the Star Forge.

The story of Cobra, the base technology, is that it's cross platform. "Frontier uses its proprietary COBRA game development technology to create innovative genre-leading games, primarily for personal computers and videogame consoles." and "Engine: Developing COBRA's cross-platform runtime and low-level systems such as physics simulation or skeletal animation." (taken from investor and recruitment materials). I'm assuming that the customisations needed, and testing needed to assure that it's right for consoles just wasn't working out. Having played the initial Cyberpunk - I'd prefer they didn't release and get, further, immense kick back. An option I'm thinking will work through soon is a streaming option for consoles. If the native installer/ code isn't performant, possibly we can just stream the output and play that. If it keeps the same CMDR profile so I can continue playing vs having a new CMDR - then it might be good to try.

Yes, yet they didnt released Planet Zoo on consoles.
it was PC only.

I do think there is a chance they will still release Elite on Nextgens only, but it may take a while - assuming Odyssey get some better reviews on steam and get some better sales.
Else if the sales will not pick up, it will slowly decay, enter maintenance mode and then FDev will turn off the servers.

What you described there is the bleakest of outcomes, however, while David Braben is running the show I really don't think he'll let that happen to his pet project (Elite), even if sales are bad. If those rumours about selling the company had been true though then I'd be worried as DB would no longer have a say.

How can those say they did not lie, when at the point of stating they would sort out pc issues then port to consoles that is a lie they have not and are not going to, all a long i have as have others repeatedly asked for updates and time scales on console reseal and have been told non yet but it will be coming another absolute lie and the list could go on and on

They didn't lie - they don't make promises. Never have.

It sucks what happened about the console but Fdev said, 'we're pausing work on the console and focussing on the PC. We have no more information to give but will let you know when we know' (badly paraphrased).
Now Fdev have mastered the art of speaking with forked tongue as the statement allows you to interpretate it that work will go back to the console once the PC version is optimised (*), however, the statement doesn't actually say that, it more... intimates it - very much like their 'not at launch' & soontm statements.

* which it's still not - they optimised mainly by degrading graphical options (-not a programmer)
