Canopy breaches need to be more common

reminded me of the time this happened

Relog to be teleported outside the station. Call the fuel rats. On the bright side, someone is going to have a laugh :)

Also, with ship interiors, you could have pushed it the Kerbal way !

It'd be a terribly boring space game if you were just stuck in one star system. The hyperspace drive is one of the staples of SF for a reason.
I dunno, a "The Expanse" videogame wouldn't be a bad thing IMO. Space is big, and our solar system is massive, especially if we don't use FTL. With varied environment to.

They used to be common. Then the forumites compl ained loudly because they always want things made easier. Shrug. Be careful what you wish for.
You misunderstand difficulty with frustration. A very common thing. It's near impossible to fight with a broken canopy, forcing you to run and repair. Yet it's not a "game over" situation, like when your hull reach 0 and you die, which is fair, and depending on how it happen, can make the fight difficult.

On the related subject, here is a very popular and still accurate video on the subject, from Extra Credits. While it's rather old (2013) and some examples are dated or wrong today, the principle is still true. It's rather short and worth a good watch.

To put in context of the video, the canopy breach feels unfair. Even though it's not random, it kinda feel like it, and there are no real ways to mitigate it (outside of "not taking damage" which is a basic rules everyone try to follow). Especially since both the canopy and the guns are directed toward in the front, so if you want to shoot, you need to expose the canopy. There is no "angling" or "armor switching" mechanic, as in world of tank/warship games for the former, or battletech games for the later.
Since it's not really reliant on player skill, it's not difficulty, it's frustration.
Also, NPC don't seems to be affected by the same rule. While the player is basically put out of action by a canopy breach, the NPC aren't. And I don't think they die if their timer goes to 0, like we do. And it's even worse for Thargoids, who loves to breach your canopy, since they don't even have one.

TLDR : unmitigable issue through skill + special rules for player = frustration.
Issue you can overcome through cleverness/skill + NPC following the same rule = difficulty

I can't see me enjoying this. I already hate canopy breaks because they're so immmmmmersion breaking. I understand that the FSD is the source of a weak deflector shield but it just feels weird flying around at hyperlight speeds and the thing is just open. To say nothing of when you're in combat and the thing is open when you're being fired at. I wouldn't have had it completely break, just crack up and mess with the UI a little bit and turn off Life Support all the same. But not the giant blank in the UI and open hole it is now. Maybe that could be what it turns into after it's broken twice or so on.

Anyway I personally do not like it. Can't understand wanting more of it.

Dead horse, but there's no way anyone would build a combat capable spaceship with any kind of canopy.

I haven't had a canopy shot out since 2018. Engineering and shield tanks make it not a thing anymore in PvE and I prefer it this way.

If you want more of this it seems simply a matter of changing the way your shields are done. Canopy breaches can be encouraged through build and engineering choices I reckon.

Like why is this so rare for some ships?
I've had plenty of canopy breaches on everything from Eagles to Anacondas. I mean, unless you are thinking it should just be a random occurrence for absolutely no reason at all? Maybe you're thinking micrometeors should just punch through frequently?

I had them plenty in old times. And yes, some ships have more of them than others, due to the size and position of the cockpit.

But i also have to say, thanks to engineering my last canopy breach was years ago. The canopy being breaches requires shields to go down first...

Agree, I believe prior to engineering they were much more common. More than likely due to the fact that I haven’t lost shields on any of my ships since fully engineered long ago.

When the game first came out I used a vulture to BH, I lost canopy on that joker many many times.

As I said above, you can prevent canopy blow-outs by fitting enough MRPs. It's just one of the choices you have to make when doing outfitting.

Never had on burst myself, would be annoying 6kly from the nearest station!

It's not that bad. My CMDR almost always has at least two full days worth of life support synthesis.

Canopy breaches are a significant factor in my preference for beam lasers...

They do.
