OG Xbox CMDR’s

Feeling nostalgic, looked at some old screenshots.
o7 to all the original Xbox Commanders. Fly safe. And of course o7 to everyone else too. I’m still playing Elite after switching to PS4.

I wondered if my Explorca post had survived the forum transition from vBulletin to XenForo. It lives!
Wow, that was even pre engineers.
My first exploration was all the way to the wichhead nebula, in my Cobra.
To be honest I was a bit scared back then to go outside the bubble without station support.
Later I practically lived in the deep black.

Ah yes, pre-engineers days…taking my Asp X as far as I could! Those were the days!

Taking the 44 LY stripped down butt naked light weight ASPX to sag A was brutal. Beautiful, but brutal.

The paint after I got home.

Bonus pic for how cool it was fuel scooping the trinary after dropping from witchspace right in the middle of all three and nearly having a heart attack.

God I used to love this game…

I've been playing ever since the first Game Preview day, and proudly sport the GPP decal on all my ships! Not playing often anymore but I return to space from time to time. There's still things to do, mainly land on that 45G planet...

I've got the GPP decal on all my ships too.
Just this week I re-installed ED to see how it runs on the Series X, smooth as butter, the game never ran better so I doubt the cancelation of Odyssey and further updates has something to do with the lack of power by the Series X and Ps5.

Such a shame...

I only have a Sidewinder on Xbox now…wealth transfer to PS4. But, it’s sporting the GPP decal 😎

Indeed. I was surprised that they are not bringing EDO to the Series S/X - are they not just mid-range gaming PCs running Windows? I'm sure that there is work involved re-skinning for a console but I didn't see a huge porting task there.

The problem is that the base game is technically an "Xbox One/PS4" game, it's not native to the new consoles. So if they made Odyssey for consoles, it should've been a last-gen piece of content as well. And while it would've probably run adequately on the new machines, since they just power through, on the base consoles it probably would've been an unacceptable experience. And they wanted to avoid that situation, learning from Cyberpunk 2077's problems. Another possibility is that they simply couldn't, or want to fit Odyssey into the old consoles' memory limitations. They only have 5 GB RAM allocated for games, which might make it impossible for Odyssey to work, for whatever reason. We'll probably never know.

Sadly, it's not possible to release a DLC to a game that is compatible and also available on last-gen consoles. Both platforms require parity between generations in this regard. If they wanted to release Odyssey on the new consoles then they had to release Elite Dangerous separately on the new consoles, which requires yet more additional work, etc. It's complicated, and I think they decided that it's not worth the effort, or they simply didn't have enough resources to do so. Either way, it will also be one of the big disappointments in gaming.
