Offline mode

It literally just came up in discussion in my discord channel and I thought to post the suggestion here and slightly expand on it:

could you imagine playing through a GALMAP navigation training mini-game intended on providing guidance on how to plot various routes, that follow Salomé and through her flight or CMDR Jameson for that matter?
Or likewise a mini-campaign that follows the scrum leading to Arissa’s coronation intended on providing guidance on the various ins and outs of the BGS and Powerplay systems, especially now with Odyssey released?
I expect the FDEV coding team could, in captivated horror, but still though, right?

if an offline mode was on the table, a third party online server mode would be equally possible and far more interesting for the game as it would imply modding at least at the server level. this would also encompass playing your own private server locally.

that option has a lot of potential

Well… I’m not entirely huge on the whole private server idea, personally. I’ve resorted to doing major trading in solo, just so I don’t have to deal with the inconvenience of ganking when I’m just doing a bore-grind, and even that sort of leaves me feeling disgusted with myself.

I also don’t see any equivalence between an offline campaign mode intended on developing the canon-lore and an independent server mode that strips the rest of the community to continue to affect the gamespace and FDEV itself of the capability to command its universe

easy, an offline campaign would siphon users from the shared universe the same way independent servers would. and really, who cares if it does? the game hasn't leveraged the mmo aspect beyond simplistic cg's. what players can affect in the game is inconsequential and their ability to create shared content almost entirely exists in their imagination.
most players play alone anyway.

an independent server mode would allow players to create narratives and content at the server level like fdev does as well as potentially play thru all of the official narrative. the difference is an offline only setup is limited to fdev's content and just yourself. an independent server option can do all of that plus include community content as well as other players wanting to share other versions of the galaxy.

Well, that would sort of be the point, in that it provides a means by which to get people caught up in the in-house lore in a way that satisfies their gaming experience without being left in abandonment and a means by which to learn the intricacies of the game’s mechanics that the various gaming groups might simply disregard but can be a satisfying experience to some.

If you’re referring to player-made campaign-mods, I’m not actually in objection to that kind of thing, but I don’t see why that wouldn’t just be something that could be happening in Open with an increased engagement and oversight of the development and community team.

I mean, its sort of about increasing engagement throughout the playerbase, regardless of their preferred playstyle, I suppose.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not unsatisfied with my experience in the least- I fly a spaceship- but there are aspects of the game’s lore that I’m completely unaware of and I can’t really look to engage with it without knowing its there to engage with, which I sorta think does the work the developers have put into the game a real disservice

Modded player created ships too?

If someone makes the Megathron or Talos (I think it's called) Gallente Ships from EVE scaled down to Elite size...let me know XDD

Developers if you are listening, I know it's been dismissed in the past but please implement an offline mode!
Even if its just a highly cut down version, I just want to do some trading and fighting etc - I love the game engine but am not really interested in the expanding universe or plotlines etc - just a free play mode with enough to keep us happy :)

Offline mode would mean local saves. Eh, people using forbidden tools to tamper with the game is enough, having people using forbidden tools to tamper with their saves (which is even easier to do), no thank you.

Gut: Thats the one ! :) On that note- a remake of the original with the new graphics and sound would be awesome!
Ettanin: Local = people can do what they want so it does not matter if its offline, the best thing about PC gaming is the modding and it would open this up.

as long as the local save is just that and cannot be sync/uploaded to the online version, then I see no issue...

but if the local save can be uploaded/synced back to the online version, then there would be rampant cheating...

Agreed, it should be completely separate.
Please Frontier/Mr Braben - can you make this happen after all these years - I would happily pay good money for an offline version and I know a lot of others would too, perhaps a special edition box release or even just as an offline DLC ?! :)
