Wait, what, it's not, there's something called "game theory" and that's definitely not subjective, it's science. There are several mathematical models that help describing it.What constitutes as gameplay loops is subjective
The context you are conveniently leaving out regarding that discussion is that people were asking for objective reasons and you kept posting subjective ones.I will never forget the "fun is not relevant" I've heard once here![]()
Utter pollocks!More like a Pollock, amirite?![]()
But mathematical game theory is not the same as game design. It is a completely different beast and has nothing to do with gameplay loops. It can be used for game design but has many more applications and generally is just another mathematical discipline.Wait, what, it's not, there's something called "game theory" and that's definitely not subjective, it's science. Re-defining words and vocabulary is a corner stone of cults - please avoid falling into that trap...
A couple? A couple should be 2.Also I think the definition of several is (edit) MORE than two. Not two![]()
Actually, it does. Gameplay loops have a mathematical model that's not too far from economy cycle models, if you mix in a bit state progression in there. Usually graph theory is a nice tool to start with, helps "cleaning up" a design that would have unintended shortcuts, side effects etc.But mathematical game theory is not the same as game design. It is a completely different beast and has nothing to do with gameplay loops.
Ah yes it's got quite broader applications than just game design (it's a tenet of AI, which is my domain) - just saying that you definitely can create precise models of "game loops" and what they consist of, and that they are absolutely not "subjective" matter. It can be used for game design but has many more applications and generally is just another mathematical discipline.
I must admit...I like half life Alyx...I'm trying my mate Badger's VR rig out for a few days.
Besides wrecking the Mole cave by falling over my PC chair and pulling the curtains off the rail... or nearly knocking myself unconscious on the edge of the desk after bending over to pick a pistol magazine off the virtual floor. Playing standing up waving my arms about and knocking monitors off the desk is a distinctly hazardous and damaging pursuit.
I've made up my mind that VR gaming is more dangerous than my old job of jumping out of aeroplanes![]()
The key point here is "anecdotal fun is irrelevant" when even you are forced to point 30 seconds in a 6 hours playtime videos to continue your collection of "unplayable/unenjoyable" alpha moments, that the funding is better than ever, ED players continue to leave (for other games or SC), and a large portion of the players who leave for SC stay in SC after the honeymoon. Not sure which particular quote you are specifically referring to but in the context of the discussion here about if SC is indeed the “BDSSE”, “able to compete with any AAA out there” or if SC fidelity “breaks new ground” personal and anecdotal fun accounts are indeed irrelevant and quite meh to be honest.
I don’t think anyone here argues that some people can have fun with SC. Heck even games more crappy or broken than SC can have their fans.
Enjoy the Vr mole! But gotta ask, do you have the entire cast of Beatrix potter up there with you? ;-)I must admit...I like half life Alyx...I'm trying my mate Badger's VR rig out for a few days.

SQ42 beta end of 2021.
Vulkan late this year.
Second system late 2021, early 2022.
iCache a huge mess at start, good tech at the end of 2021.![]()
Perhaps you will understand what's really going on in one or 2 years.
I suspect the accounts of unplayable or unenjoyable moments in this thread is just a simple but effective counter and way of demonstrating how your “fun” argument is irrelevant in the discussion here about if SC is indeed the “BDSSE”, “able to compete with any AAA out there” or if SC fidelity “breaks new ground” etc etc (never mind the discussion about CIG and Chris Roberts continuous misrepresentation and potential fraud).
Good news, march 22 total funding is already at 20% of may 21 funding. Record year incoming.

Quote of the Day from the latest ObsidianAnt vid...
Star Citizen feels like a Turner painted on bog roll.
I'm worried that server meshing technology might not be possible with current technology and that there stuck with no way to move forward. This hurdle might be the one that dooms the game.
Star Citizen has come a long ways but unfortunately has even longer to go. I enjoy it as a backer but long for more stability and gameplay loops. CIG definitely knows how to make beautiful planets and spaceships.
Not sure what this has to do at all with what was promised in Squadron 42- a decade ago.
Its great that you have been calling Star Citizen out for lack of game play loops, CIG really do need to get cracking on game loops and polishing the ones we currently have.
The PU is the big customer pull and creating for Squadron 42 only is not a good thing as many of the SQ42 items just bug out when transferred to the PU ( med beds etc ), really needs to be on the PU first then SQ42.
While I'm still curious to see what will come out of having uncapped R&D as we will never see this possible again, there is no way to they can reach an end goal now. Lets say they refine all their tools for creating each star system. And lets say they get that good they can create a whole system in say.. 1yr. Which I think is a reasonable guess if not ambitions for a timeframe to fully build all planets / stations considering they only on the first still. And correct me if wrong still targeting 70-80 systems? Given a yr timeframe the math doesnt look good. Halve that to 6mths to create one, thats still 30+yrs. Halve it again to 3months thats 15yrs. So at best they would need to churn out a system every 3mths to complete target which is their current schedule per patch. And checking the current patch notes i would say chances are less than zero. In the end tho for me i stopped looking for any completion, I'm just here for the tech
I've been suspicious of Star Citizen as a likely scam for quite some time now. I am starting to wonder if the structure of this scam could be:
1. Raise funds via kickstarted (so no legal responsibility to investors) for ambitious space combat simulator game.
2. Continue to apply new stretch goals at every level of funding to ensure that game never makes it to market.
3. Invest their money in new game building tools and technologies that create a studio that has unique game building capabilities.
4. Quietly abandon Star Citizen
5. Make and sell other games using those tools for pure profit and/or license technologies quietly to other studios.
The bug hunt is mostly to reassure themselves and deny the fact that the alpha is progressing quarter after quarter towards a real game.I suspect the accounts of unplayable or unenjoyable moments in this thread is just a simple but effective counter and way of demonstrating how your “fun” argument is irrelevant in the discussion here about if SC is indeed the “BDSSE”, “able to compete with any AAA out there” or if SC fidelity “breaks new ground” etc etc (never mind the discussion about CIG and Chris Roberts continuous misrepresentation and potential fraud).

Have you noticed that the tech demo argument is becoming less and less common here?
