Discovery Scanner [Weekly Update] - 29/03/2022

But since i heard that selling materials to your own bartender counts as an unlock - at least a certain category of ultra-rare materials will most probably get recycled and the market would get saturated real fast.
Maybe someone should bug report that and have it expire due to lack of confirmations? Obviously I can't be bothered - the bug tracker has succeeded in deterring me.

Not at last, very high pricing will benefit (or at least have no impact) the people that already have everything and it will greatly affect the newcomers that will need materials for unlocks or upgrades/mods. And if the newcomers are EDO focused ones, they will also have a hard time to get credits unless they get deeply involved in Horizons specific money gain schemes.
Well, not any more than now.

Newcomers will still have as options:
- get the materials yourself
- be donated the materials from a friend
- buy the materials cheaply from a philanthropist / someone who is just offloading spares

That will probably put some downward pressure on the price - sure, there probably are people who'd buy Settlement Defense Plans at 100 million each, and in raw credits/hour equivalent-effort terms it's not an unfair price, but I'd expect them to be cheaper.

Allowing free setting of prices might even make it easier for newcomers to find them - I'd like to sell my spares, and not at price-gouging rates, but I equally don't want to sell them for 1 million to someone who's just going to privately resell them for 100 million so they need to be expensive enough to discourage that too.

Equally, newcomers could potentially make credits by selling data to Bartenders - or at least, more than they would by selling it to the NPC ones. Sell data for a few million credits now (when you're weeks away from unlocking an engineer that would let you use it), buy it back at a similar price when you actually need it.

And ultimately the entire market will depend on new people joining the game or rolling alts because everyone else will already have everything.
Eventually, yes. But I wouldn't expect that sort of saturation to come for a while. Still plenty of existing players who haven't really touched Horizons engineering, for example.

Where we REALY need material trading is in those consumable materials that are used in AX fighting. Keep the AX ships in the fight, don't make them go mat gathering for the sake of it. Buying materials to unlock stuff feels like to much of a shortcut that shouldn't be possible (maybe the unlocks should just be more mission based). Buying consumables and materials for engineering should absolutely be a thing.

That's all for this week folks,

The bar price cap should be based on a formula like this:-
((Average price of beverage in current system/1000)*serving size in litres)*markup

Where markup can be set by the owner at between 2 and 10.

I used to do that post carriers introduction, while Borann was still a lucrative deal.
I would be buying cheap LTD and sell them at the price i thought is fair enough 😂

This is one of my Carriers, the other one sits at 39 billions.

Sure, that was only the income, the profits were not that big, but even with the hit i took when they nerfed the LTD prices, i still made a healthy profit.

SO i would expect billionaires buying whatever cheap materials they will find and sell them expensive - even for nothing else than to keep the market prices high.
Edit: pretty much like people are now roaming stations to check for pre-upgraded armors and weapons, they roam carriers to buy whatever they find cheap

Greetings Commanders!

Apologies for bringing you your Discovery Scanner a day later than usual this week, but here we are! Let's talk about all things Elite Dangerous.

Fleet Carrier Interiors & Update 11 Feedback

First up this week, I want to talk about Fleet Carriers, specifically, your feedback to the launch of interiors, and Update 11 as a whole. We're very happy to see that the vast majority of Commanders are enjoying the update, and of course the jump sequence that I like to bring up every week because it's just THAT good. Your feedback, however, has been incredibly valuable as we look to improve the experience further moving forward. Of all the feedback, I believe the following are the most prevalent:

  • Bartender Service storage cap (already tweaked)
  • Bartender Service sell pricing cap
  • You would like to use menus whilst sitting
  • The panel next to the Commander's chair in the bridge should be interactive
The above has all been fed back to the dev team who will be taking these points into consideration. If there's a point here that you believe is worth raising that I've missed, please do leave feedback below! I'm interested in hearing your thoughts in detail on the Bartender Service sell pricing cap.

My take on FC & Interriors.
  • Bartender Service sell pricing cap and
The current price cap is somehow odd - because FC owners can only set buy/sell pricing depending on this galactic price - and for some this is low and thefore the pricerange is too limited - this could be changed by a hard limit in credits (f.e. 5mil max)

All service doors should have sings what they are (even if the service is not installed or suspended) - you only know what the closed door is you are standing at - if you remeber the place from an FC who has the service open. (BTW the list of disabled services should be updated regularly on the system map)

FD should give a BENEFIT for players who open more SERVICES on their FC. The current pay sheme is DISCOURAGING opening additional services because the UPKEEP is rising and rising. For example for every opened service the FC owner could get a REDUCTION of 5% to the total UPKEEP costs. So if a FC owner opens 5 services he gets a discount of 25%. You could also connect this to the option if the FC is OPEN FOR ALL players. This way you would ENCOURAGE players to have many services and the FC open for all players.

Additional options on FC.
The owner should be recongnized and greeted accordingly also friends and Squadron members. The FC owner COMMAND seat should be special.

We need an option to DISABLE the NO FIRE ZONE for the owner, friends and squadron members and also FRIENDLY FIRE should NOT trigger FC turrets to fire on the owner and friendly ships - REMEMBER WHAT HAPPEND ON THE GNOSIS
It cant be that I am not able to defend my own FC (we had that problem on the GNOSIS - there FD after some time diabled the NFZ so we could fight againsted the Thargoids attacking the ships on the landing pads of the GNOSIS - BTW that direct attacks at the GNOSIS was the most exiting PvE scenario I saw in ED).

UI - we need SEARCH fuction for selling and and buying commodities and materials (BT)- scrolling through lists with 100+ things is not practical

NICETOHAVE - selling of not needed engineered modules & suits and weapons - selling standard stuff is uninteresting.

One more thing i just remembered

In the December Stream where Carrier Interiors were introduced, the Carrier Express Lifts were showing multiple destinations (Bridge, Bow, Stern)
We did not got those.

It would be really nice that from Hangar we can take the Lifts to Bow Section or to the Command bridge.
Respectively from the Command Bridge or Bow Lifts to be able to access directly the Hangar

Pretty Please?

I expect they will - though with the storage limits, there's limits to how much you can manipulate the market, and you can only reliably sell for 100M if you're able to buy up all the cheaper sources.

You could easily end up with a bunch of stock that you can't sell for anywhere near as much as you bought it, that way - especially if other players set out to deliberately break your cartel.

(Which is the sort of interesting "remember when" content the game really needs right now)

  • fc route plotting
Seriously this, I don't see why this can't be a thing and would LOVE for this to be considered or looked into as a future QoL update for carrier management.

It would make setting up deep space ferries to and from Colonia, dispatching DSSA carriers around the galaxy, sending a carrier ahead of an expedition and the likes so much easier as a quality of life feature.

I get that Frontier probably doesn't want a player plotting a carrier route to Colonia, going to bed and just being there when they wake up, but it's so much better than having to MANUALLY plot an estimated FORTY FIVE JUMPS from my home system over a period of TWO WHOLE DAYS (that's WITHOUT breaks, that's if I stayed up for 48 hours to manually plot a jump every 15 minutes + 5 minute cooldown).

There's definitely room to balance it by having a player have to manually refuel Tritium to the carrier's tanks from reserves when that 1000t fuel tank runs dry so they can continue the journey automatically.

Source on 45 jumps + 2 Days estimate and 4000~ tons of Tritium

Access to the area next door to the command deck ready-room (further two windows are visible from the outside). Private area for the owner, could be customised via Arx store and or items gained or collected during gameplay. Take care and Elite.

Bug: My ship can have 1000 assets, 1000 goods and 1000 data. I have 994 assets and much less goods or data. If I want to buy at a foreign-FC some data, I can only buy 6 data items (seems the limit is calculated against the assets instead of the data asset).

If I transfer some of the assets to my own FC, I can buy more than the 6 data items.

Implicit bug/imbalance: if I can have 1000 of each on my ship, why can I only have 1000 in total on my FC (the increase from 100 is already an improvement, but I would expect I can store more of each on a FC than what I can store in my ship).

Apart from the ability to access the commanders chair panel and being able to issue orders from it. I'd also like to see the Navigation UI get some love. plotting a jump especially during a CG is a real pain because if the target system is full it dumps you out the the Galaxy/System map and you have to start all over each time. This is ridiculous and unnecessarily frustrating. I'd like to see a bit more variety on movement for the FC NPC's I don't know about everyone else but pretty much all the crew stay in the Bar (I don't blame them) I have one or 2 who are asleep in the seat facing the door to the command deck. I have a security guard at the lift and the 2 at the flight desk. I see nobody walking around or remotely looking like they have anything to do. How about some maintenance crew walking towards your ship after you disembark. I'd pay ARX for display panels that I can install showing a loop of my screenshots or messages about the Carrier. Getting the odd salute would be nice too.

I'd like all of the services, just because they contribute to the functionality of the FC, but...

Being blunt, both the cost of installation, and the subsequent upkeep costs discourages me from bothering. I don't have hundreds of billions as I spend the majority of my game time in EDO doing surface stuff with a bunch of friends, it is fun but credit-poor gameplay, so my personal fortune isn't growing exponentially each week. I'm not unhappy paying for the services I do have installed, so not a general gripe, they provide services I need for my own playstyle, eye-candy services are, for me, too expensive to consider.
It is not a real problem, the maintenance of the FC is expensive but fair enough, also making money in ED is not complicated, there are many 50 million wing missions, making money in ED is quite easy, in a couple of hours in 4 wings we can also make 1 billion with trading mission
