I haven't played the last month or so but on opening Odyssey last night I found I could disembark on foot but only go a walkabout around the bay where my ship is parked. The option to re-enter ship takes me to the start screen on my ship and I cannot see any option to enter the carrier bridge to watch a jump. Is this because I am 7000ly out on my way to Sagitarius A and you have to be in a carrier instalation system in the bubble to install the various upgrades like bartenders etc?. If so, what is the point of these upgrades for explorers. Myself I got fed up of the grind in the bubble and set of on an unending exploration trek months back and have no intention of returning to the bubble anytime soon. Does this mean I will have no access to the carrier upgrades of patch 11 until I do?.

No, the carrier admin are only required if you want to install one of the 4 optional facilities, Pioneer Supplies, Bartender and Bar, Vista Genomics and Inter Astra. You didn't see the annexe for entering the concourse? That's strange, a bug maybe.
You should be able to enter the inner area via the elevator just like you would do when docked in a station.
I am also on a neverending expedition waaaay out within the Delta.
And I was also disappointed at first about the unavailability of upgrades. However I thought about it and they made a good decision here I think.
Deciding to go on a neverending expedition in a hardcore simulation is a decision which comes with a great responsibility. You decide to LEAVE and with that TO LEAVE EVERYTHING BEHIND. That's the beauty of a neverending expedition.
I personally was planning mine for months... which modules and ships to take, etc.. The longer I will stay out the older I will have become.
Picture yourself returning after years in your rusty, outdated fleet carrier. Your crew striving for a bar and social contacts other than their crew. And the unshaved, filthy rich "You" striving for a vendor to upgrade your home.
Explorers also have bucket lists ... they are just more patient...

No , I found the Disembark button on the start screen was now lit and when I enter that it takes me down to a blue lit tube. I can use my mouse and keyboard buttons to move out of this circle and move out and around the bay my Corvette is in but only as far as the railing on the perimeters. I looked but never saw any other entrance or annexe so I go back into the blue circle and have the option hit "E" to return to ship. On the next screen I get the options to go to the pilot chair or there are three crew spots available under that but as I have no crew these do not react at all. When I click on the only link available to meie the pilot seat it returns me to my Corvette.
.... not much of an explorer eh if they can't find their way to the bridge? 
Thanks to all for the replies. I found the entrance just like GroG79 detailed it above. Must be the old age kicking in Factabulous, at 72 I am having trouble finding my socks of a morning never mind the stairs to the bridge.
