So PC users don't use windowed mode or picture in picture mode or have a phone/tablet with web browser... They specifically have to alt tab every thing.
I use PIP to watch youtube... or have audio book playing on tablet...

I don't know, ask somebody who does it. I will say that quickly glancing at live price information (which you would expect to be available in the game considering it's literally current technology) and slavishly referring to screenshots of the game for 'fly here, now fly here' instructions of how to game asteroid mining aren't even in the same ballpark for me, but like I said it's a question of where you draw the line for immersion breaking I guess.
Except that technology is intentionally unavailable in this universe, hence all the courier missions. Meanwhile, it makes perfect sense that we can mine asteroids multiple times, we're only scraping off a few tons of an asteroid that weighs tens of millions of tons at minimum.

I can only speak for myself but no, I don't use picture in picture to watch youtube videos whilst I'm playing a game. I play a game whilst I'm playing a game. I honestly didn't think this was unusual behaviour.

With the latest CG it can take over 10mins to get to the planet for the collection in SC from station... that 10mins of doing nothing in game at all as your just waiting for that counter to hit 6 seconds before you even touch the controlls again and then your waiting for planet entry were nothing happens after that... and the return trip will take just as long back with no action in game... So yep I have youtube videos ready to go...

Which one, the Guardian one? Yeah, I'm not doing that one since it's a relog fest, which I guess takes me back to my earlier point about me not doing stuff that breaks what immersion I have in the game world.

A couple of tips:

One, the SC trip here isn't especially long, but it takes less time if you DO touch the controls and don't just fly there in a straight line. Arc out of the ecliptic plane to avoid gravity wells, approach the planet from above/below to keep it from obstructing your approach to the megaship, and let the timer get down to 5 or even 4s and skim the planet to let gravity bleed your excess speed. It's a more interesting trip and takes a third less time.

Two, departure should never take significant time. Jump out to a neighboring system rather than twiddle your thumbs climbing out of the gravity well.

It doesn't have to be a relog fest, there are quite a few discovered sites now, you could always visit each site only once, although I'm not sure if there's any way to get a list entirely inside the game.

True. However I'm not doing it by flying around multiple sites because the time/credits/fun/rewards equation is just not there for me.

You can't get a complete list using just in-game resources, but you can find quite a lot of sites. Set the Galaxy map to the civilization filter and scroll around looking for the blue dots of guardian-affiliated systems. Not all guardian systems show up that way for whatever reason, but that will get you more than you probably care to visit in a week.

I did the mining thing. Oh boy, I really don't like laser mining. I worked on that sentence to not be rude toward people who like that, by speaking in absolute.

For people like myself who just want to get it done, mining ice ring get you 2/3 of the minerals you need. Apparently Coltan is harder to get.
Also, bring an abrasion laser just in case, I had once or twice a node for it.

I installed a dual screen setup earlier this year because ED was literally the final push for it. I used the video inclusion feature but it was clunky.

except it doesn't, when that asteroid is marked as depleted and yields no more resources. Asteroids don't exactly "grow back".

There is no point in trying to not "break immersion" because the gameplay is immersion-breaking as it is. It makes no sense that out of an asteroid as big as seen in-game, we can only collect a few tons of worthwhile material. This is done for gameplay reason so that players can't fill their hold on one rock, nothing else.

Eh, I suppose you could headcanon it as new material being exposed on the surface due to gradual collisional erosion. Those rings are shockingly dense; collisions should be very frequent.

Now obviously that should take significantly longer than the couple-hour refresh interval for laser mined rocks. But in a real ring you also couldn't come back several orbits later and expect the same rocks to be where you left them. The actual explanation for that design decision is probably that you're not meant to be able to intentionally find the same rocks over and over, and that's why there's no navigational tools that would let you do that more efficiently.

Depends how the mining lasers work. Given the fact that we are only mining about .001% of the asteroids total mass, it would make a degree of sense if what was actually being depleted was our ability to mine the asteroid, not the actual resources inside the asteroid. For example, if enough dust gets put out around the asteroid, the lasers could no longer penetrate, and you would need to wait a while for Gravity to pull that dust back down and allow the asteroid to be mined again.

just got kicked from the 50% by a few T,.... never mind. I cant get on my games machine to fire up elite... can anyone remember where the heart of taurus is going to next?

i know it said it on the display when in game. just incase i do not get on for a while i am just wondering if it will take me closer to home or even further away (my T10 does not jump far and it took over an hr to get out there)

thanks

I seem to remember when docking at it that its next jump wasn't for another four weeks anyway. By that time the reward will time out and be auto-claimed. Don't know where it's going though, perhaps home?

I wasn't really bothered about the rewards, so I just dropped a few token tonnes in to expand the prize pool for those that were.

I just wanted a reason to put recent tweaks to my mining build through their paces, and I was... in the area.

Wasn't able to log in for the number of hours it would have taken to get myself to tier 4 and knew that at the beginning, so no big deal. I just went in for the practice (and getting blown up in the process by someone calling Salvation a war criminal and wanted to stop the mining operation because of it, reminding me once again why CG's should be done in Solo).

NOW: Within the next four weeks I expect a full report on the analysis of this material we've been collecting to see how this "mysterious radiation we've never encountered before" has affected all this stufz. If there's no result and it was all for nothing, well, we know for a fact that all that stufz we collected in on the Heart of Taurus and @Bottom Hat will have our permission to go to where ever this mega ship is docked and go get that stufz.

I'm not logged in yet but I believe the name started with T Tauri something something - I'm sure someone will come along and correct. I had heard it was their home base. The other related megaship is leaving today, as they're collecting guardian stufz and don't want to hang around too long in case Thargoids have a nose that can pick up that stufz.
